My 2c.
Sarah...you're so optimistic! ^_^ I'm glad to see it, and I agree. Why look for trouble? It'll find us all eventually - might as well enjoy ourselves in the meantime. :?
I think that's the first time in my entire life anyone has ever called me optimistic. Maybe I am improving after all.

And yeah, beyond that, I think there will always be channels for enthusiasts to find their fix. It may not be easy or convenient, but so many people love doing this that they'll go on anyway. Heck, I'd keep making videos and keep them on my HD if it came to that. Not *as* fun, but still fun.

lol.

As long as there's no big movement to profit off of AMVs I doubt anyone will care to the extent that would involve a lawsuit. Although, as the membership (however innaccurate) nears 100K I think more people may start noticing the appeal of AMVs.

Most bands that are starting out want some exposure. They book every show they can and make sure to get their cds out every where that is possible. Lots of these bands have their songs available for download right off their sites. I know a few bands who I have shown AMVs to. One band actually had me make one to one of their songs. They all liked it and put it on their cd as a bonus. I'm sure there are bigger bands that are actually well known who would like this too. They just need to be shown what AMVs are the right way. I'm not saying to bring an AMV to a band that has one of their songs and THEN ask for permission. Maybe showing them one of these small bands songs in an AMV will make them think "Wow, that looks kinda cool." Of course there will be some like Metallica who will be like "WHAT THE HELL?!? You expect US to let YOU use a song for FREE in something that will be shown ALL OVER THE NET?!?" There will always be people who are more interested in money than in actual entertainment. Instead of pleasing the fans, they just want the money and it doesnt matter how cut-throut they have to be. Well there is my two cents.

One of the many problems with the industry as it currently stands is that artists often don't own their own copyrights. Even the permission of the people who recorded the music/drew the art/etc. won't get you off the hook if their label decides to give you grief.

It wouldn't make it legal, but if the RIAA gets all pushy about amvs because they have downloadable music, you could just let people download your video information and they could virtual dub (or other programs) the song back to the anime video information on their home computer. That would be big enough a loophole to keep them at bay over the net.

Pain in the rear yeah...and really until I actually hear of someone going into the courtroom (users off Kazaa, etc.) I am not really going to start sweating.

I not only used an indie-label band in my latest vid, they actually liked it!!

If you're getting antsy about lawsuits, just run your music choice through the RIAA Radar and avoid them altogether! I only share KaZaA stuff that comes up green on the Radar.

They Wont

Post by EX-Slacker » Mon Aug 18, 2003 7:38 pm

They Wont Go After AMV Makers To do that they would have to reinforce it with laws , blocks soo on by the time they would actually be able to ban amv makers it would cost them to much money , and SOme times As we are children we play around with these softwares and usually end up making good videos and some people actually get to release a amv to certain companies , its how it Most anime trailer ppl start out , plus were probably one of the least worry's on there list at the moment , But if they do go after us they wont be able to do great harm to the world of amv , it'll make it harder , there will all ways be amv creators law or not , if they come amv will just go underground and still will go on!
