Re: What's in a name?
The only thing I look for in a name is that it isn't something "Goku is crawling in the dark looking for the answers" or "Naruto's love is Sakura's drug" because not only do those names drive me up the wall, but they generally end up to some pretty un-creative vids too. Granted, there are ways these kinds of names can be used well, but you actually have to put some effort into them!
As for usernames and studio names... I agree with Code that usernames like xXxMAdOKa245xXx can be a slight turnoff but that usually doesn't stop me from watching them if the vid itself sounds interesting. As for studio names...I honestly don't get the point of them so I dont even pay attention.

Re: What's in a name?
It generally takes me a bit of time before I come up with a name for an AMV I'm satisfied with. An original/interesting/clever title can do wonders to get the AMV noticed, so I try to be creative in that department. We should totally have a VCA category for "Best AMV Title". The fight for the win would be awesome!

What's in a name?
Whatever you do, just don't call it "[name of anime] AMV"
I'm sure you can be a little more creative than those guys.

Re: What's in a name?
Well, on youtube people looking for video, will usually watch one....then choose the next one from the suggested videos list, it's very likely somebody will click the video with the catchy title, name or pretty looking thumbnail.gotegenks wrote:How so?
I agree wholeheartedly, code.
On this site people are more open minded and will probably check something out thats been announced regardless of name or title.

Actually on youtube I don't think title has much to do with it... more so a good thumbnail

Re: What's in a name?
I usually look at the editor name first. If it's someone who I know consistently puts out good work then I usually download it. If it has a good anime/song combination I like but I don't recognize the editor name, I preview it/youtube stream it first. And unless I find it really awesome, I won't really download it.
But I tend to give everything a shot so whenever there's a new thread, I'd click and see what it's about before saying no. Except when I'm lazy and cba looking through lots of threads for good AMVs I just pick the ones that sound good.
yes I am a bad person like that.
As for Youtube...I look at editor name, video name AND the thumbnail before I decide whether to watch it or not. XD

Back when I started I decided to go with NerdStrudel because I thought it was funny and memorable, then I changed it to NS because I didn't want anybody to know about me... >_>

Re: What's in a name?
What I watch isn't really determined by the name or title or anything. I won't lie that when I see the "BEST OF *Insert con or genre or whatever here*" I usually roll my eyes since that just seems like a egotistical/show-offish grab for attention. And that goes for both Youtube and the Org. I mean, with Youtube especially, just put the con and award information in the freakin' tags. It doesn't need to clutter up the main title unless it's an IC because at least with an IC it makes sense to list whether it won or lost.
Making judgements about an editor or their video based on their screen-name or title is just kind of...well, stupid. For all you know "LinkinParkNaruto.avi" might just be the most amazing video you've ever seen lol Just like the old saying, "Never judge a book by it's cover."
Overall, what I watch depends on my mood I guess
If I'm in the mood to watch something new/good, I'll usually browse the announcement forums looking for editors I like.
If I'm just in the mood to watch new AMVs in general, I'll watch any source combination that looks interesting regardless of editor, video title, etc...
If I'm in the mood for none of the above, I'll just watch what I know and like.
Not too much more goes into it >_>

Re: What's in a name?
Since we're on the subject of youtube, wouldn't it be awesome if there was an a-m-v.org channel where all of our videos could be posted there too?
