However, I personally feel doing that is wrong and unfair to the people who put their hard work into creating videos for her contest. If you only get 10 submissions, then play those.

So, this actually could be a good point to start the discussion as to what a contest coordinator should do if he or she doesn't get enough submission for an AMV contest?
Will they mail you the prize, at least?
Umm ... not going to poKe that hornet's nest. :uhoh: All I did was email them telling them I did not submit my video and asked them to look into it, because the video was falsely submitted (that was before I knew what really happened). Sounds like maybe some locals may have been not to pleased either.

I guess Koop won it in 2009! Gratz Jay.
I just responded to a post over there trying to explain the situation---they really don't seem to understand that what they did was bass-ackwards and that's why people are in a tizzy about it. Guess we'll see what kind of response I get.

It all pretty much boils down to "If you don't get enough submissions don't call it a contest." A contest implies people entered and are interested in competing - shit like this could get you DQ'd from other contests like Otakon for instance, which is not cool.

That was basically the gist of my post to them. How it will be received remains to be seen. They seem to be a tad touchy over there.

Aww go ahead and ask. You won right? The worst they could say is "screw you!" or something similar. :P

If all 10 of the videos were of average song length, that would of been around 30 minutes or more. That seems good enough for a contest.
If they wanted to get more all they had to do was advertise here or on any other major amv communities and they would have gotten plenty.

though I do admit I will pimp out other contests to my entrants to try and get them to submit their videos to help another contest out

Honestly right after I made my first post I went to send a PM to JudgeHolden and he sent me a PM to let me know that he had in fact entered. If I had not gotten that confirmation I would have DQ'd the video and it wouldnt even be shown in the all showing.

Anmd that the same point I made in their forums.. to me it's not about stealing property (we don't own it), but more about the point of what a Contest is. the whole point is to have "people" submit thier entires to compeat. And yes, what you say about fairness is exaclty right. How fair is it to those that enter the contest to suddenly suppliment it with what ever is out there? that's not the point of a contest, nor is it what it is defined to be. that is my problem with the whole approach they used.
I say if you get less entires, then play then and run your contest from those.. You can always then suppliment the block you have for it with a "Showcase" of AMVs rather then supplimenting the actual contest itself!

Yes, I made a response to that... I think it sounds like they are bitter over the whole thing. Not the kind of behaivor I would expect coming from a chair (former or not)...
