Something like this... though replace the "helpful people" with "understanding that joining a community of any sort required lurking and understanding social interaction for a while before jumping in." The egotistical and privileged youth that think everyone should suck their cocks and worship at their feet are slowly taking over the internet. Hardcore tolling is the cultural backlash of that. Both of them are fucking stupid and both groups should get a fucking life.CodeZTM wrote:To be honest, I never got anything ridiculously hateful when I first started out. Then again, when I first started out, I was surrounded by a lot of really helpful people that guided me through all the guides and stuff.
Furthermore, JaddziaDax is correct. The term "otaku" does imply the highest form of social ineptitude. The concept of "aspie mouth breather" is a more recent American equivalent.

I read it completely

As someone who just started out and joined recently (May 5), I can say the org has been very welcoming and helpful. I've gotten comments that I've generally found useful, and met a lot of kind people. And this community has been extremely helpful to me starting out, especially with all the technical stuff. I can see where this person is coming from, but I really just don't see what he/she sees.
We'll see what happens when I post my first video to the announcements forum, but all the comments I've gotten thus far from sending my videos out have been constructive.

I know where this guy is coming from, on one of his announcement threads where some people jumped on him because he couldn't take negative feedback.
Several people had told him that his effects were poorly done, and he threw a fit over it. He had statements like "Well I'm not perfect!" and "as long as you could tell it was blood then that means I did my job" (for the record his announcement was for a really weird Clannad video where the guy was going around killing people by shooting them). No one even mentioned anything about the guy himself until he blew up at the negative feedback.
You are not your video, just because someone says something bad about your video that doesn't mean they are attacking you personally. (General statement - it seems sometimes people forget this.)
Now it is from my experience that most of the people here don't sugar coat things. They may even come off as jerks at times, though it seems to me it's unintentional. I'd rather get an honest opinion than a dishonest opinion.

Right. I've never taken the word as a compliment or neutral self-descriptor or some kind of power word, simply because I do know what it means and connotes, and never fit those things. The closest I ever did kind of come to the stereotype was when watching Robotech in 6th and 7th grade, but that was less about the fact it was three anime series stitched together and more about the fact I loved science fiction and had never really encountered anything in the space opera genre. It's why I've said before that if someone used it to describe me I'd feel the urge to punch them in the face, because I don't see it as a good thing at all.BasharOfTheAges wrote:Furthermore, JaddziaDax is correct. The length of time I've been a fan has generally just made me jaded and rather un-enthused about the whole thing, although that doesn't prevent me from enjoying new series or the community. The same thing could also kind of be said of AMVs, too.

Oh god, then the hexagons popped up and I was like 'I just got a stiffie'. Then there was the circle with those thingies going around and I blew my load.
