I'm sorry, but I grew up in a society where people taught me mannors when dealing with everybody, regardless of stature. Please do not think I'm talking down to you.

2nd, I assume you read this thread which states that I believe many people act differently when posting in a forum than in real life. When I posed the question would you be treating me the same way were we face to face, it was an attempt to get you to consider the rudeness of your inital comments to me and how it was encouraged by others - which is my entire gripe. You have answered the question with a "Hell Yes. I'm rude to everyone until they earn my respect". I don't think that's quite what you are trying to say, but that's sure how I read it. I'm not sure how to respond to that.

Am I a whiny bitch? No. I'd been watching and listening to BS for 2 years before I finally issued a complaint. Enough is enough and I'm finally standing up to it. Quite frankly it has gone on long enough without coming into check. Everything else I've posted has been in direct defense of my position. Perhaps there is some real plight here that many should evaluate and consider?

Well how about that phade made a rule specificaly against the kind of behavior you are exhibiting.
Secondly, noone did anything to deserve your attitude. this "you want me to be a decent human being you gotta suck my dick first" business of yours is what a lot of people call "being an asshole".
And whether it is a good or bad thing that you act this way in RL I can't say, probably because you're 200 LBS of muscle with very little room leftover for a little thing called "brain" so you think you can kick anyones ass until proven otherwise. And lastly, this is a discusion, don't turn it into a flame war. Because from post one that's all you've done.

I think the best thing to be done in the current situation is for people to try to lead by example. Otaku, if you treat others the way you want to be treated then the n00bs will follow your lead. Anime Jedi has greeted many of them with extremely nice and pleasent posts. I know they've influenced me to be nicer to n00bs (I generally am). So why not try the same thing instead of making threads like this one?

Would you rather I'd have been veiled in my attempts to state my point? I can't do that. I WILL NOT tiptoe around, trying to impress everyone and offend no one. I tell it like it is. It's not that I have no respect for anyone when I first meet them, they have to do something to move my opinion meter to the better or worse. You posted a whiney opinion of a problem with no solution, and then proceeded to perpetuate it for 12 pages. By the time I decided I had heard enough from you and others, you were into the negative, and I just stated such. I won't turn this into a flame war over such a absurd point.

If your solution involves a utopic scenario involving everyone acting civil and mature at all times, I'm sorry to say it ain't EVER gonna happen. That's the nature of the human psyche. Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Unfortunately, I think the people whose behavior you directed this thread against are fully aware of what they are doing and choose to do it anyway. Not to sound defeatist or anything, but you can't change someone unless they want to be changed. That being said, the assholes that inhabit this forum will most likely remain assholes.

Maybe what we can do is to regulate ourselves instead of depending on the moderators to do it for us. Sure, there will always be people that toe the line and test the limits, but when that happens why don't we take it upon ourselves to speak out against them in a non-offensive manner. Saying "Shut the fuck up!" to a flamer obviously isn't going to solve the problem. But if it is known that the general population of the forum dislikes certain behavior, it will most likely stop, or at least lessen. Alright, I don't post much anymore, so maybe I am contributing to the problems that plague this place, but it seems to me as if people are saying that the moderators aren't catching nearly enough of the crap that they should be. If that's the case, maybe we should start pointing out the things we disagree with. Sure, an opinion is an opinion, but the strength of many people who hold the same opinion is a powerful thing.

Well, just a thought.

Why? Because the defense of the other side of this has been to attack me personally, either through my credibility or though personality.

NOT ONCE has anybody ever thought to say:

"Ok, we've heard the complaint and I speak for everyone here that we'll make an attempt to be more courteous. Now, can we move on with life?"

That's all it would take!

That really bugs me. Instead, I have come under personal attack. When that happens, I am obligated to respond, less my complaint be considered mute or invalid.
