One can read a book inside their house. They can read all the books that they want to, and still not know anything about the outside world.

Ooh, a disdainer of books....
<rant>
Okay, I's is grumpy. Thou shalt not make fun of books, nor shalt thou proclaim the knowledge they offer stupid because it was read instead of "experienced." You can learn a lot from books, whether they be sci-fi, non-fiction, or even [deity-forbid] romance. Such as this so-called "outside world" of yours. Books have to have a setting, for example. In order to understand that setting, "outside world" knowledge is employed/gained. You don't have to go to Antartica to learn that it's cold there; you could read Mr. Popper's Penguins instead. (Okay, stupid reference, but it's late/early, and I'm damn fond of Mr. Popper's Penguins, so shuddup. And yes, you could learn about Antartica in school or something too. But then there wouldn't be penguins in the basement.)
Besides, the internet is a lot like a book; just one with a lot more pages and being constantly reissued and with multiple publishers.

"People argue when they do not fully understand". - DIEMONDDAGGER
Actually, there's an occassional person who argues not because they don't understand, but because they don't agree. It has been known to happen now n' then.
Hey, was that the vomiting guy in This Is Otakudom? I wasn't too sure."Hsien! THE DRUNK!!!"
But that was just bizarre to watch. There's the poor boy, on the ground, vomit n' beer dribbling onto grass, doing the whole "gwgwgaman I wish I waz dead" thing that vomiting drunks do, and this other big bloke starts with the "No! You're alive! So live!" thing. (Oy, talk about watching one too many EVA episodes...)
Yeah, telling Trekkies to get a life works wonders."Seriously, many people here need to go out and do things..." - JBONE
As for reading a book... easily done.

NEW REVIEW SYSTEM PROPOSAL
Wow, while sifting through 8 pages of posts here, I've had quite a bit of time to think. I'd like to propose a new review system that I think might keep everyone happy. Most of this has already been proposed by others, though I've made some slight revisions to the ideas.
First of all, get rid of the top 10% as we know it currently. I'm sure Phade has put a lot of work into it, but it really is rather pointless, and it leads people to make reviews into these so-called popularity contests.
Next thing, LEAVE the current review system as it is, though put a disaimer on it saying that if you are going to leave a review, you MUST write something that is verbose and well thought-out. Now I don't mean you must write page long reviews or more, but at least 2 good paragraphs. There is the possibility of restricting only other creators to being able to post these reviews, but I'm not quite sure how much I like that idea.
Finally, add a new type of opinion in addition to the current review system. This would simply be a thumbs up/neutral/down opinion, and maybe allow for a few lines of comment. Any registered member of the site should be able to post one of these.
Now regarding the top 10%, there could be a new thing similar to it created, but utilizing the thumbs scores. Essentially, all videos would start at a score of zero. Every thumbs up would add +1 to the score, while every thumbs down would add -1 to the score, and neutral would not change the score at all. Essentially, the higher a videos score, the more popular it is. Since it would be so easy to leave this sort of opinion, videos could easily get hundreds of them.
Now finally, I'll explain the purpose of these changes and how I think they would improve things. With the removal of the current top 10%, there would be absolutely no reason for anyone to write a pointless review. The ONLY person that it would effect would be the person that recieves the review. (Though they could still choose to make up to 2 opinions public) Even if someone decided they hate your guts and so they give you straight 1's, who really gives a damn now, it wont matter in the least.
Now the thumbs reviews, they would serve merely as a gauge of public opinion to your video. This would give people the ability to simply state their opinion of your video without having to give you a pointless review. Since everyone would likely recieve LOTS of these types of opinions, it wouldn't really matter even if someone did give you a thumbs down or something just because they hate your guts, as that 1 opinion wouldnt have much weight. Also this would make the people that never get opinions happier, as they WILL get some sort of opinions on their videos.
So now what does everyone think of this? Does anyone have any objections to this sort of review system? Do you love this idea? If everyone would be happy with this, then we could throw the idea to Phade and let it become a reality.

Tall and tan and young and lovely
Yay, after reading all those messages, I finally get to post in the snarky new forum.
Yeah, people are people, people will always be people, and so there will always be lots of lengthy debates and misunderstandings. Personally, I don't make music videos BECAUSE I'm such an elitist bastard. But that's okay, because you can't all be me. That's my job.

Jesus, you miss out on a lot in a week!
Holy f*ck!
Not only EK the person I looked forward to reading her journal but also Hsien! THE DRUNK!!! HE'S GONE!

Well, I had some good times with you all here, but I guess some things are just beyond my control.
BTW - in case you missed it, I am NOT leaving, and am not sure why people thought I was.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

Honestly, the reviews mean little to me. Sure they are nice but I just use the site to basically get word out and announce videos and talk with other creators. If you do not wish to add videos anymore then its your own perogative and I won't stop you, but you should still stick around in my opinion.
