Sorry for bumping the thread from the 2nd page, I was gone for the last few days.

And this should be the last bump, at least from me. I'm quite disappointed that no one competent to speak on Org's behalf answered my questions or commented on my points. I hope that at least someone read it, and that the issues I brought up made some people think.

I believe in supporting the artists I enjoy, but whatever floats your boat.
JaddziaDax wrote:I read your post and insulting my reading comprehension and intelligence just makes you look like a jerk. You were the one who pointed out that there is a preview button there, not me. granted you said that this came from a previous post, but its still a valid statement no matter how you put it.
That was a polite way to point that out. I won't be patting you on the back each time I disagree with you. If you feel insulted by this, maybe you should go find some Teletubbies forum?
Anyway, please read the sentence where I mention the preview button again, and try to figure out what I meant by that. It's not hard, really.

And that's a very good point. See how easy it is for an ignorant, and even well-intended person to put Org in some deep shit? And what about ill-intended people?

Are we really going to just sit here and HOPE that nothing will happen? Think about it.

That's EOD from me, unless someone brings up some non-redundant points or actually answers my questions. I said what I had to say so far.

Maybe I'll repost some of my arguments in Site Feedback when I'm back after the weekend. There's already a new edit button thread; one more sure won't hurt.
No edit button sucks.

All right, so the heart of this discussion seems to have reached an impasse. One party says we should try to establish/defend the org's right to distribute AMVs, and at the same time the editors' rights to create them in the first place; the other says we are all basically doing something that's illegal, so why draw attention to ourselves and inevitably get smacked down in doing so? Looking at it this way, there's no way forward.

However, what about if we look at things from a different angle? Yes, the org's distribution of AMVs is illegal as it stands, to all intents and purposes. What then would it take to make it legal? It must be possible to establish legal permission to use copyrighted material, in much the same way that radio stations do. From what I understand, the anime industry pretty much enjoys and tolerates the use of anime in creating AMVs. I'm sure some people in the music industry feel the same way - it is, after all, fan activity, and fans are the ones who shell out for their products. Perhaps it would even be possible to negotiate for low fees on the basis of all the arguments we've seen so far - i.e. that it provides good advertising material, encourages CD/DVD purchases etc.

To some extent this is pie in the sky, of course. I don't know how much radio companies have to pay out to broadcast their music. And if this were to happen, it would put us square in the eye, and under the aegis of the music industry, and perhaps the anime industry as well - it would mean much less freedom and a lot more control, even in a best case scenario. However, it would be legal. All difficulties and expense aside, surely it's preferable to be controlled and legal rather than anarchic and jailed? At the very least, isn't this worth looking into at least a little?

oooh teletubbies thats inventive...

I'm not looking for a "pat on the back" when I dissagree with someone...

but perhaps someone who doesnt come across as a jerk for once might be nice to come across on the internet... but considering that this is after all THE INTERNET perhaps it was just wishful thinking on my part...

crawl back into your hole asshat.
