I did my Die another day two years after Vicbond's, fully knowing that I would get compared to his. But I did it anyways.

Not only have I never gotten any complaints, it became one of my most popular videos.

I don't think it's as bad, though, as when you already know a very popular amv uses the same song and/or source. However, if you make that video completely original, people will still watch it, and it might even become popular itself

I've copped the same sort of flack when I released Dedication. Waking Hour was released maybe a month or two before mine and soon after I was getting comments like, "reminds me of Koop's", or "you ripped this off Koop". Which I found fairly strange seeing as how Waking Hour is more or less a straight forward recapturing of the original mood of Beyond the Clouds, but Dedication is me using the footage for a story that is different to what Beyond the Clouds told.

At the end of the day, does it bother me though? Back then it did, but as has been mentioned already I think that is a response from someone new to the hobby when perhaps the thought of originality being a certain anime and song pairing is the key point. Does it bother me now? Not really anymore because I think I know what kind of videos are out there and I'd rather download them than make them :P

Now, whether I purposely still avoid making a video because it feels that I will be following someone's shadow... hmm, I guess I can say that it's still in the back of my mind not because I don't want to be compared to someone, but because I just want to be original to start with. I guess the difference is subtle... *shrugs*

No, not really. If it happens, it happens. I have three different copies of "Phenomenon" from three different editors, and love them all equally, irregardless of who made it or when.

I must finish Reverie before someone makes a fully 3D video and ruins my life. RUINS MY LIFE.

Personally, every day I hope and pray that another editor shows up who does similar types of videos that I do or at least uses the same music that I would. Honestly, I will not only not hate - I will fucking marry the next editor who makes multiple King Crimson videos or something. I cannot wait until the day that as an AMVer, I am made redundant - I don't make videos because I enjoy the editing process, I make them because I want to see results. I started editing in the first place because I was pissed about the lack of certain types of music being unrepresented in AMVs. If these results come out of someone else without me having to go through the process - that would only be seen by me as totally fucking awesome

Seriously, the day I am satisfied that even just the source combinations I have in mind are covered, I will quit as an AMV editor. Take that as a promise/challenge.

Yes, because I am a talentless, myopic hack who can't understand anything about a video beyond its combination of song and anime.
