I can make a vid in 2 hours and then it could take more like 200 for another depending on what exactly I'm doing. As for time, I've finished a vid in well 2 hours and I have one I've been working on for 2 years now. Of course, I have about 20 vids in the works currently, so it all depends on when I feel like working on any certain vid.

My approach to AMVs is that I work on something as long as necessary to get it the way I want it and if it's just not working, then I don't care HOW many hours I've sunk into it, it's getting the boot. Not everyone likes this kind of work ethic, but that's how I function.

Proof:

My first video took me about 2.5 months to make and about 100 hours. This doesn't mean much, however, because it's a very straightforward AMV that no one in their right mind should have spent that much time on. The non-insanity plea is that I'm really bad at video editing and also excessively fond of experimentation.

My second/third video took me four months/220 hours to make, however about half of that time was due to high levels of fussing over 20-30 seconds of the video.

My third/second video took me ...er...20+ hours, but that doesn't mean much 'cause that AMV is messed up. So it took me 20+ hours to create an AMV disaster. Normal people can do this in 5-10 hours.

I spent well over four years and probably 600 hours attempting to make AMVs and never compiling more than 10 seconds of anything (and that was bad, too). So before anyone gets all "OMG this is taking so long," just remember, it could be much, much worse!

shortest video completion time: 30 mins... (also my lowest rated video)

longest video completion time: 7 months including procrastination and making other videos..

longest running idea for a video: 2 years and counting, I'ma make it one of these days O.o

average video completion time: 2-3 days

for me it boils down to
1. how much effort it needs/how many effects I've got planned
2. how much work I wanna put into it
3. how well I know the series I'm working with.

I sent a video to AWA Pro several years ago in which I captured the footage and edited in 4 hours.

i rarely ever watch new amvs, but i will rewatch old amvs now and then. i wouldn't call 'old style' dull.

Currently going on 1 year, 1 month, and 2 days for the one I'm working on. Meaning I haven't touched it in about a year... :(
