I recently am sorting my collection and Zamora you have the same fucking thoughts as I had oO
My sorting is like
Editor - Name of Video
i.E
Bauzi - Different Realities
I also have a mep folder and strangly also a collab folder O:
Oh and a LAMV folder for Adrenaline Junkie (and other things)
I recently del a bunch of videos and I am still at it @_@
The good thing with this concept is....
I recall the editor and wich videos he/she made, helps often by lurking through the amv announcments....
I bet most of the people wouldn't know the name of the editor who made tainted donuts without looking it up....
The disadvantage is, sometimes I'm looking for a certain video, but forgot the editors name >_>
Wich happens sometimes, but most of the time I remember it
Well I have to memorize Anime and Song by looking at the videos name, but I can memorize quite a bunch if I have to.....
Before that I had folders for the editors ---> was like one folder for a video O:
Before THAT I had folders for the studio ----> was wierd stuff DX
BEFORE THAT I had folders for the anime ----> didn't really drag me, cause I wanted to have an editors work next to his other stuff...
And in the beginning I made it like this ----> Anime - [Editor] - Song - Video Name
>_>
I'm pretty happy with my current methode =)
But a tool as you describe it would be handy
Hmm I have an idea for you Zam.....
You could make playlists =)
Like one for editors, one for anime, one for character profile, one for action and so on....
I mean it's a bit of work, but well with a programm you might have to enter the info for each video separately as well...

Re: AMV Organizer
I believe it would be tiresome to add info for every vid and such a program cannot be popular and really helpful. But the problem isn't unsolvable.Epical Zamora wrote:It could just be a basic sorting program based on user-based information.
For the vids listed on the Org we already have everything, and a sorting program, if it was written, only needed an interface to access the data. Like search by hash.
There is another approach to the subject. If editors entered all the tags for their vids while muxing, we could use Winamp or iTunes for sorting. Some recommendations for tagging could be developed.

I organize my AMV's mostly into Genre. You know, folders with "Romance", "sentimental", "Action". But I also have a folder just for specific editors that I enjoy all their work. So far the only ones that I have are: Jaddziadax, JubJub2, Jade_Eyed_Angel,Infinity Squared, and Chikaboom.
I also have certain studio folders. I know (off the top of my head) I have Aun, Visualized Nightmares, RDS and Amvience.
But to be completely honest, all the AMV's that I actually watch are on my Ipod. They are just on my computer as backup and for when I'm doing some work on the computer. ^_^
As for programs go, I used to have a really nice one (freeware), but I lost it in the crash of 07, and still can't find the website. X_X

Many modern operating systems (i.e. OS X Tiger and above, Ubuntu Linux, and I hear that Vista thing) have built-in search mechanisms which are capable of searching such metadata:So then I got to thinking, what if there were a program to easily organize them based on Song, Artist, Title, Editor, Genre, etc.
- OS X has Spotlight
- Ubuntu (and other Linux systems) have Beagle, KDE's desktop search thing, etc
- Vista has its Instant Search
I don't think there's really a point to having Yet Another Search Doohickey out there.
The interesting bit is how to pull that information out without a lot of manual labor.

As I sort and maintain the archive (1.3 TB of videos) the naming convention for the files used:
Studio Name - Video Title - Artist - Song - Anime
That is the same naming convention for my contests, AWA and others use now
Although each video also is in a database that have all the other relavent information.... The actual files are stored in directories by year
