I don't see that you have to look at the anime at all. It can give you hints yes, but as one of the other reviewers said, if the amv itself isn't presenting it, then it's already failed. No bs there, sorry.
What you're proposing sounds way too complex for what we're trying to accomplish.

This way we all start on the same page, and there's still opportunity for people to bring up other themes they may have seen and how they felt they were presented without muddling the focus of the discussion.

P.S. I still maintain that this video is far too random to contain any real coherent story theme or anything else we could go into detail about.
So any attempt by anyone (other than perhaps the creator him or herself) would just be grasping at straws covering those straws in vague terminology like "themes of guilt" or "a sense of fraternity" and presenting it as a possible story. not to say anyones personal interpretation of anything is wrong persay, it's simply that the work itself is not strong enough in showcasing anything so that it would be interprated the way or at least close to the way in which the author intended.
On the non B.S. side of analysing the video, a strong point i wasn't able to convey during the theme debate was that technically this video didn't really have that many faults ... For the size the video encoding was kinda poor, (and correct me if i'm wrong but the FMA movie is widescreen isn't it?)
but the action synch was on par if not above par of most videos.

You don't have to, but if you've seen the anime and someone asks you to discuss how the AMV editor interpreted certain themes, then I think most people would immediately say to themselves: "The series had X themes and the editor interpreted them like this..." unless, of course, it was overwhelmingly obvious the editor took creative liberties and presented a theme that was never there in the first place. That was not the case with this AMV, the editor was presenting many themes found in the series, so saying we can't reference the series' themes when discussing the AMV's themes is impossible. Yes, people who are ignorant of the series can also discuss the AMVs themes, but that doesn't mean those themes have nothing to do with the series.quadir wrote:I don't see that you have to look at the anime at all. And why is my "Discuss X theme" proposal more complex than "Discuss the themes?"
Not that again...they aren't themes? Then what the heck are you going to call them? We spent the whole night discussing that stuff, so apparently most of us thought they were themes.Fall_Child42 wrote:Those Arn't Themes.
And yeah, I wish we'd been able to comment on the technical aspects of this AMV, since as FC said, it was definitely noteworthy!
