I've never really understood the whole "retiring" thing. I mean I guess if someone wants to pull a Kevin Caldwell and totally cut themselves off for whatever reason, thats up to them I guess... but how do things get to that point?
I mean, I see it as something similar to saying "well, I've been reading books for the past couple years, and well, I'm tired of reading books. I'm never reading another book in my entire life!" Just because you think you are into whatever hobby, you don't have to do it constantly, especially if you don't feel like it. It's OK to tell yourself that you are tired of something and wanna stop for a while. But to stop altogether? Forever? WTF?

Reading those "I'm retiring" threads is just embarrassing.
I mean geez, if you aren't going to make videos anymore, just don't. If you suddenly feel like making them again one day, make them again. Why the need to attention whore with the "I'M RETIRING!" and then "I'M COMING BACK!"?
I agree with Katie.

I couldn't have said it better myself.Arigatomina wrote: Anything more sounds like you're defending your choice to quit to a bunch of angry fans. Or like you're posting for attention, hoping your friends will talk you out of the decision by reminding you how much you're loved here.
Just don't make a big post when/if you come back. Those are very embarrassing to read.

Hello to all!
Take it from the other side:
I joined the Org in 2001 (hell...what a long time ago...) and created only ONE AMV since then...
But right know I'm feeling like being in love with AMVs more than ever before! There are some vids I plan for the next months and it could be my best time as a AMV-creator!
to retirement-statements:
I think the personal interessts play the most important role of all. You're getting 'older' , doing your job/college/university-thing, maybe raising your own family!
Right know i never could depart from Anime/Music/Videogames/Movies and such things.....and I hope that never happens. But for some their time has come and they say goodbey to the Org.

Overall I actually feel like I haven't been here long enough to "retire" yet. But most that talk to me should know that I've been leaning more towards something fresh these days. I love hanging around the community and leaving my mark on things but I don't really feel the need to make Amv's myself anymore. Maybe ones I get a final product across or really settle with something ells I'll just disappear from here. Then again as I stated the community we have here is pretty cool, and it would be a sin to just turn my back on things.

Thats why we got called elitist bastids in the first place. But yeah I fully agree with your statement and we've discussed this many times amongst each other haven't we.ZephyrStar wrote:I don't mean for that to be some kind of elitist comment or anything, because I really like what people do around here, but it's just some of us have different creative goals.
Maybe David just maybe we will move to stuff like that.trythil wrote:Screw the .org, hop on cgtalk.
Seems to be something "more" for us there who knows.

Retiring, eh? What is this, a career?
I say, if you don't want to make a video, then don't start one and still hang out. If you wanna stop hanging out here, then just stop. You know, this happens all the time in all sorts of communities. The "oldbies" miss their departed friends and get fed up with the "newbies". Who needs to know you're leaving? You probably aim/skype your oldbie friends anyway, right? If some clueless person missed your departure, they'll make a thread and someone will tell them. I've seen it.
p.s. what is that like 20 :/ 's?

Actually I've already had a job where that worked too. Y'know where people were like "Yeah I'm gonna see when I'm gonna be back to work, I got enough money for the next months anyway" (lol this sounds sarcastic but it's really like that in some german factories it seems).JaddziaDax wrote:i dont think people should "retire" or whatever cause its not like a job or anything... i think it would be easier to just say "im taking a really longass break, and wont be back for a while/ im uninspired to make anything and i wont come back till i am inspired to make something" or whatever...
I also heard some rumors that this guy from Die Hard is coming back into the game as well so....I don't think there's any reason for retirment from a hobby, like all of us would totally still be skateboarding right now if we would've ever landed that ollie back when we were 11 years old ;>
I guess you can also make a hard decision and cut off all AMV related activities from your social life because you don't want to always be bound to just one social community but from my personal experience I can say that you can always discover several new things simultaneously without quitting anything or feeling bad about wasting time or whatever.
