I'd LOVE to do special fx like those seen on theforce.net [I think that's the title]

Ya know, fan made starwars fights that are better than the starwars movies themselves...?

Aside from that, does anyone [looks at beowulf] think that my editing prowess is worth considering to make a living?

*shows off soothing symphonic and feel the rhythm...*

Anyone?

I am the opposite of Beowolf.

I spent two years as an editor for a cable channel while earning my Radio/TV Broadcast certification. Rather than continue to work in the field, I started making AMVs with my skills.

Now I'm just a print journalist... and an unemployed one to boot.

That's good to hear. While I'm still not heavily involved in AMVs (and I still need to swipe...erm, borrow Mom's Visa so I can order VMS off Amazon), I've discovered I really enjoy doing this. I'm a jouralism major in university, and while TV and Radio used to be the scariest things going, this plus taking the classes made me realise that I actually kind of enjoy it.

I'm still not sure what I'll do after I graduate, but I'm thinking now that I'll go into TV or radio, which a year ago scared me to death.

Congratulations! I hope to get my foot in the door soon as I've been shuffling around my demo reel to a few place. As they say in this business, connections are everything. Maybe I'm just not finding the right people, yet. Care to put in a good word for me?

Beowulf wrote: Anyway, there is hope, and its awesome. Use your AMV editing skills and styles as your PRIMARY selling point, because its a very good selling point. No hollywood editor knows what the fuck we are doing, we are completely unknown, and we do things a completely different way which (judging by the reactions I've goten to my professional work so far), is a style that can really change the film world, and hollywood as a whole, a couple years down the line.

I know exactly how you feel. Creativity is so stagnant in Hollywood that people actually try to steal ideas or "find inspiration" from other outlets like AMVs and DEMOs.

Those of us in this field can change the face of video editing and multimedia for the future simply through the internet. We don't have to be "in the biz" but it could be nice.

the big question is:

how much does your job pay?
