Only you can properly answer that question.

Essentially what you're asking about is storyboarding.
In other words, watch the show and cherry pick the stuff that you want and ONLY rip the parts that you need, deleting extra.

Once you have a rough idea of what you want for your video, you map out the key scenes that you need to match via storyboard. From what I can tell most people here do it in their head by previsualising the project as they work on it and trying to match that on the screen. No reason why you can't step into a more film oriented mode and actually write or sketch out your ideas. It works well for some, less for others.

Try also getting your lyrigs and mapping out all of your connections eg: guitar sting = gunshot. You'll find that your scene matches drop dramatically when you do. Doing a lyrical scene match will also give you tighter storyline.

And lastly, there are lots of ways to save space while editing; Via the guides you can use the bait and switch method where you edit using something fast and smooth like Mjpeg where each episode takes about 1-2gb for a high quality file, or even using the avs file and editing directly off of the vob files.

if you remove the audio from your clips, you will have smaller files... try removing the audio if you havent already... it will save TONS of space

Heres my q's:

I am wrighting them down on a paper marking them down where they are and if they are a "Dance clip" "story clip" or a "Landscape clip". Any tips on how I can sort them better? (note: I am only choosing now. I will cut em out later)
This is an interesting way about doing this. I've always had the song first and then thought what anime went really well with it or thought about the story and the characters of the anime and what song could go with it. But I have not thought about looking at every clip and seperating them. That would take up a lot of space in time. It may be easier to pick the song or think what song will go with the anime you are choosing.

This last is a kinda big q.
How do you plan youre video and choose the clips needed, to avoid this because I suspect things will get messy once I have them on the comp and to tell the truth Im sceptical If 316 gig will do as I saw a 23 sec clip take about 600 mb (using the guide VicBond007 put up on ripping DvD footage and the oh so famous huffyvuffy codec... you know which I mean).

(If youre for some reason interested in the consept check the "AMW
suggestion" thread and "Azumanga Idea")
Thx for all the replys. ^^
For me I use the DVD Decrypter and then go into AMVapp/ DGIndex encode through that as avs script file. Then go into notepad and use telecide(1) decimate (2) and save the avs file and then use it in priemere. Look at your DVD's first you may be able to get away with skipping a few and not have to rip them to your computer if they do not contain anything for your video. VicBond's guide is great if you have the time and the space for it, but really it takes up a good amount of time to do it and hard drive space which cost money that some people do not have.

I hope this is helpful

It's whatever works best for you. If you've got a complex multi anime matte shot ala Vlad G. Pohnerts work, or even a multi source shot like Whisper of the beast then the visual storyboard might be easier to plan it out (storyboard style). Mostly just keeping track of what you're doing via timeline, or lyric notes is going to be enough.

Making your video like it's a short movie isn't neccesarily a bad idea... just overkill depending on how complex it is.

Keeping a log on a 4 minute or so music video is probably excessive. Remember, most people just kind of have a general idea of what they want and the video forms as they make it, kind of an interactive and intuitive process.

1, Ive been looking through the series about 3 or maby 4 times these last 3 months. I never get tired of it so another rewatch I am greatly looking forward to. ^^

2, Time I have and more harddrive space I am going to get anyway.

3, Everything is helpfull. Ty :)
