Right, has anyone seen the "Anything" video by Evil Plushie? Great,m funny and everything, but it consists of uncompressed audio and Cinepack video..... boo.

Now, my new question is: when are you all planning to move your video encoding to x264? :D

I thought it was somewhat funny that if you convert it over to Lagarith (in YV12 mode), there's only about a meg or two difference in size from the Cinepak version (I'm pretty sure that's still with uncompressed audio, maybe not; I can't remember). And it still played at full speed on my 1 GHz Celeron.

Either when the benefit in quality outweighs the inconvenience of people updating their playback codecs or avc content becomes commonly supported enough for this to not be a problem :)

Yeah I can see that inconvinience is "high". Even I have problems updating ffdshow to the most bleeding-edge 2-minutes-old version just to see the result of my latest 2-minute-old-version encoding ;D

Then again, benefits will be (are) pretty huge especially for anime (no more ringing, ever) and especially for music videos (flashes, fades, all compressed much much better). So... I can't wait for someone to try :D

Well, I'll give x264 a try in a few hours, once my Gentoo system stops blowing up :P
