I am with Beowulf. If people can't be creative enough to come up with thier own ideas, its not really "creating" an AMV anyway, its just rearranging what has already been done. Raw footage is one thing, but when people put time into effects, overlays, crops and more, its not just stealing footage, but all their time, work and effort. Why SHOULD they take credit for that?

it all depends... i think that if it was stolen and their trying to take credit for it, it should be taken off of the org... but if it was stolen for comedic reasons, and was credited to whom it was stolen from, then it should be allowed...

Why should we care though?

I mean, I dunno you guys think what you want, I can't change opinions, I'm not out to. Just seems to me like we're stealing an artists hardwork ourselves and they havnt shut us down yet.

Why should we shut someone else down for stealing ours?

It's hypocritical either way you look at it.

maybe, but then again, noone would ever mistake one of us for having made Hellsing or Evangelion. Its KNOWN who creates those, creating an AMV using those anime's are not in efforts to take credit for making the Anime itself, only a way of expression our like for it. Whereas stealing someone's efforts in an AMV is taking our personal work, which is why the site was created...

Look...think of Fanart. Noone who creates a fanart of Asuka says "hey, look, i made NGE". ...they are saying "hey, i LIKE NGE". But if someone takes that fanart, traces it, and says its thier own...then i think thats crappity plagerism. Draw your own fanart, create your own AMVs...right?

But stealing is stealing.
Illegal is illegal.

And no matter what, you cant change that fact.

Therfore, you're asking someone to please stop stealing your work, while you go ahead and steal someone elses. Dont matter if you can tell it's not yours, what if another person cant?

Some person see's you amv in gamestop goes *damn... whoever did that drew that WELL that is so awesome*. You just made that person think whomever created that, drew it and colored it too (refrence to the Aha and Korn music videos).

Stealing is stealing.

Well if we were to follow the point YOUR trying to make, we just need to shut a-m-v.org down, cause we are all criminals. Gimme a break and let it go. This isn't about the legal and criminal aspects of fanart and AMVs, its about taking credit for the AMVs this site was created to celebrate in the first place.

ok, heres my opinion... contact the one who ripped you off and ask them to either remove it or give you credit, thats what i did to the person who ripped me off.. if they refuse, just go to the admin drop box... you dont have to post in here billions of times about how its not fair that someone ripped you off..

This is a very touchy subject to begin with and frankly even though in principal the concept is valid, it hold no water and thus should no even be discussed further.

The fact of the matter is since everyone is busy screaming about their ideas and footage being "Stolen", I really wonder what the real artists and companies thing of us stealing, using and modifying their footage... Quite frankly they could be using the same words and attitudes towards us just the same as we are against others, and they have a lot better reason to and I wonder how we would react to them saying the same thing as some are here…

In the end, we are using and manipulation footage without permission ourselves.. Technically it's not right for others to steal the images we use and manipulate then, but because we do it ourselves, we really have no right or obligations to accuse others of doing so to work that is already someone else’s to begin with

Morally I agree it’s still wrong, but hopefully most creators are honorable enough amongst themselves not to do it as we are in no position to do anything against .
