I've been editing videos since 2000 and this year at AWA will be the first time I submit my vids to a convention so obviously contests don't matter to me. I found myself in this predicament for like 2 years, everyone wanted dance videos and the DDR project is probably the extent of me ever making dance videos, but I came back a couple months ago cuz I saw a video of MJs that rocked!

oh i was born in london, ontario, wanna hear how my parents met?
too bad your listening anyways
my mom is around 6'3" and my dad is 6'2" so they both go to "tall people" meetings and one was in canada, now my mom lives in chicago so, its kind of a pain but her friend said "cmon, lets go itll be great" anyways it was a weekend "retreat" at a hotel and so anyways the night before the weekend was over (please turn away now lest you have regrets all of this is true or at least this is what my parents tell me) they were both kind of drunk and my mom was ina hot tub and one guy was kissing her foot (more sucking than kissing.....) and one guy was kissing her neck and then the next morning after everyone was sober the "meeting director" approached my mom and said that the last bus to the airport left at like 2 or somethin and her flight was at 6, so my dad came up and offered to drive her to the airport, they went out and toured the city (well my mom toured and my dad "hosted" the tour) and then my mom went home but they exchanged phone numbers and kept in touch.
heres something kinda funny my dad proposed like 4 times before my mom finally said yes and he only proposed when they got in a fight......
btw, if you think my parents are tall, my brother is 28 years old, 6'4" and like 240lbs and he plays RUGBY dude!

Uhm...... Congradulations? Maybe going back on topic would be a good idea so there will be less spamming these boards? Yes, that would be a good idea.RiderX wrote:oh i was born in london, ontario, wanna hear how my parents met?

So, another competitive vs. non-competitive AMV motivation discussion.
God I need to whip out that Devil Worship avatar/banner again...
I'm a strictly non-competitive AMVer. I'll do my part in giving whatever I do the best (read: quality, not neccesarily quantity) audience I can get, but I never want to give anyone the impression that I'm somehow especially good, better than someone else, or even best of all just as a means for itself. From my point of view, there's one thing worse than no attention given to a work: attracted low-quality attention.
I also tend to enjoy watching earnest, non-competitive AMV's better.
Don't get me wrong, I like many popular videos. In fact, popular doesn't mean competitive. I think a lot of the famous vids became thus because of genuine quality rather than their purposeful striving for popularity.
But then, do what you want... be as pretentious as you like, if you feel like it...
As for me, I'd rather be doomed to obscurity than come out with a video that would purposely aim to subvert the masses. I was on the top 10% list once. It wasn't too fun. I'd much rather have several more viewers like the few good folks who gave me startingly detailed and insightful opinions through exchanges (obviously reflecting thorough and well-meaning attention) than 1000 more fanboys/girls who run around telling their friends 'Dude! Get this video because it has 500 ops!'

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Whoa...gotta lil off track at the end didn't we guys? Anyway thx for all the oppinions ya'll gave, it helped alot. It gave me great ideas and gaols to work towards ^_^. About the friends thing being involved...i'm on my own. Most my friends are all "non-anime" oriented and there comp skills extend to AIM, Word, and Xanga plus i'm a one man production group. So when it comes to AMV you guys are all I got. So workin towards the top 10% is a good idea, as well as the idea of trying to make a jaw droping video people are gonna wanna link to a friend. Right now i'm 14 so I can't really go to any anime convention till my sis gets her full drivers licence...that'll be awhile. Anyway thx again for all your comments and I hope the posting'll continue...later

I can't begin to say how wrong that is...RiderX wrote:oh i was born in london, ontario
My motivation comes from my imagination of how the AMV will come out...simple as that.
I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.

Do you have a crystal ball or somethingI also tend to enjoy watching earnest, non-competitive AMV's better.
There aren't competitive and non-competitive AMV's. I don't see how can you distinguish one from another while watching. There are competitive and non-competitive creators, not AMV's.
Being competitive doesn't mean that you imply your "awesomeness" to someone. For me it means that something particular (in this case AMV's or creators) will force you to give all you got and try even more than you can. I do think ones knowledge and skill rises more higher when one has some goal to overcome, the limit he/she sets for himself. It means that you tend to work harder and harder each time you edit or think about your video.but I never want to give anyone the impression that I'm somehow especially good, better than someone else, or even best of all just as a means for itself. From my point of view, there's one thing worse than no attention given to a work: attracted low-quality attention.
Now, craving for attention without having anything good to back it up is a riccoshet. It'll bounce back just the way you bounced it towards. And who says that only people who crave for attention are competitve? Most tend to "ninja out everything in the night"
Purposely? Unless that video has some sort of hypnotic ala "Muuuuust liiiikeeee thiiiiis" it cannot be on purpose. When you make your video you don't aim for the public damn it (or maybe some do)than come out with a video that would purposely aim to subvert the masses.
Hey, you being strictly non-competitive is quite cool. I wish I could be so layed down, but I can't . It's those damn genes
