Hmm...are there any talent hunters on the Org right now? Do they know this site exists? Should they?

I'm sure some creators hope to make money out of the skills they have in amv editing, but i see it as a hobby for now.

well if the makers of RahXephon, for instance, don't contact koop for the "Euphoria" vid then that's their loss ain't it? Its the same with all the great vids out there: the creators are missing all the lubly stuff that's goin on here.
I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.

well first of all they don't need anyone to make new op/ending credits. And some creators have done trailers, but they probably got them through contacts with companies at cons and such. They also are limited to songs and by deadlines. Also they want to show off the show they are trying to sell.

You can't show anything with various animes owned by different companies. Nor would they want any vid with tons of effects that just cover up the anime they are trying to sell. And they wouldn't use a vid using fansubs or HKs either :P I know one of the guys that does trailers for Bandai entered into Fanime's contest this year, also saw their booth at AX with more trailers from that guy. They were just ok :l

Okay. When someone edits a video for a domestic DVD, they CANNOT add anything other than cuts and fades. That's it. Legally, Anime companies - when they sign a contract to release a series in another country - are not, legally, allowed to re-create the actual contents of the show. It isn't like these people are sitting in their offices going "HA! I'm going to piss off the AMV community by not including this video everyone seems to like!!!" If you speed up footage for a video released on DVD, the company that holds the original copyright can sue them. What's more important... sell a show that people are going to buy anyway... or do your best with what's available on an EXTREMELY tight deadline?

As far as breaking into the Japanese market, good luck.

Still, its possible to make good stuff with just cuts and fades. On the japanese release of eva renewal boxset, they had an AWESOME amv set to cruel angel's thesis.

About one hour ago, I was thinking about what I posted, and realized that, yes, that sounded very stupid of me - Zarxrax is 100% right. I'm still very tired after AWA and, currently, am still doing work on DDR. I apologize for being completely out of it.

Anyway, the cuts and fades comment was meant to be targeted toward people who always seem to say things such as "Why don't they put Euphoria on the RahXephon disc?" Such things as that. A video like that simply COULDN'T go on a disc - as in purchasing the rights to the song alone would not be very cost-effective.

As for the difficulty to editing a decent AMV for a disc release... deadlines are usually very tight, you don't get to pick the song (you usually only have the rights to the opening or ending), and you usually don't have all the available footage.

It doesn't matter if you bought the region 2s : (

Regardless, there are many legal areas involved in contracting work outside of the known editor realm - usually, because a new editor would have to be taught the rules, it just doesn't make any sense, given those deadlines and the fact that time is money.

Okay, I'm too tired to continue writing now. Back to work.
