Why do some editors wait for a con deadline before they edit

Contests are generally an afterthought for me. I prefer to edit when i hear a song or see an anime that hits me. Granted, if a video is close to completion, a con deadline might be an inspiration to finish it up.

Seriously, that's more my reason when I make a video specifically for a contest. Though I don't do that very often.

B. I feel more accomplised I guess if I edit the video mainly for the con rather than just submit one of my old vids.

because I like to live on the edge, feel adrenaline and if you are not gonna do it on the extreme way, you are just a little chick or a small pussy.

I like to procrastinate, and I can't do it properly without a close deadline... and even then, sometimes I end up lazying out too much and miss the deadline regardless. (´_ゝ｀)

I make "con versions" of all my (more recent) videos weather they get submitted to cons or not, just in case I guess? I donno why I do that. Maybe in case someone wants to show my video even if I don't think it's contest worthy.

I edit what I want, and if I think it will do well at a con, then I enter it. I don't pay attention to deadlines much. Sometimes a deadline can speed up the process for something I've been working on though.

Not singling you out or anything, but you know the approximate deadline already. I'd wager you already can guess with a fair certainty (+/- a week) when the deadline for just about any con in 2011 would be.

I only ever usually edit specifically for 1 con, and even then I don't actively say "MUST MAKE THIS FOR THIS", I just make a video and wind up submitting.
