Sadly, I can see that as being hypocrisy since the anime/music companies can choose to do the same towards AMVs. I can understand though. I take it the big difference is that original AMVs become a new creative work? I guess I would be a bit annoyed if someone uploaded an AMV of mine without permission or due credit - otherwise it's all cool.BasharOfTheAges wrote:I ask anyone who posts my vids to boochsack to take them down while simultaniously flagging the copy. Got an account for that purpose. It's a button issue for me.

It's not about credit, it's about quality and synch (and to a lesser degree control of disribution channels of my videos, so I don't get fucked over because someone thought they'd "share" in a heavily monitored domain buzzing with media hype).Gox777 wrote:Sadly, I can see that as being hypocrisy since the anime/music companies can choose to do the same towards AMVs. The youtube mentality of people tends to get on my nerves. I have some videos of my friends and I playing Super Smash Brothers on there, (which are really entertaining because of our commentary). I only post some of them on there along with a link to my main site with all the vids. I still get messeges from people like "OMG upload m0re!!!" and don't even bother to check the main site.

I think a little lesser of people who use youtube specifically. I mean, I don't care about streaming websites in particular, it's just that Youtube itself has some shitty ass compression technique that totally fucks up the video.
While I have an account on Youtube, I only had it because it was the only streaming site I knew of at the time. Now there's ZippyVideos and MySpace(both compress really nice and look really nice, dropping less frames than youtube).
The only reason I'd see posting on Youtube is for views, which I guess if you want an egoboost, that's fine. I use streaming sites for quickly referencing people to my videos on school computers so they can watch it right then right there. Which is also why I encode almost exclusively to wmv - because everybody has it and it's smaller in filesize than mpeg.
Because I travel a ton and show a lot of people who could potential better my placement in the 'video working foodchain' so to speak, I can't carry around a zip drive and hope people have some up-to-date codec.
The matter of the fact is that it actually looks nicer to a pro if you have a myspace page than a youtube one, and that if you want to show off your work it better be in a format they can get to within a few seconds or they're simply not going to watch it.
Plus, Youtube has flagged some of my best videos("Forsaken", my pokemon video...) ZippyVideos is so small of a communityt hey never flag anything(but nobody comments either) and MySpace, nobody cares so I usually still have all my videos up there. On the flipside, though, if your video gets taken down on either one of those sites they don't tell you about it, so you're kind of left with "I could've sworn I uploaded that one day..."
