Fist of the Star Wipe.

Wait, you said "tastefully"?

What's in good taste is determined by the popular majority. Your individual tastes may or may not coincide with it. That seems like a pretty good definition of tasteful to me. How would you define tasteful?

if i were to go by the feedback i get on my videos, i would have to say that the ones with the most "pretties" and/or effects get the most response...

that doesnt mean that they are in "good taste" cause good taste depends on who you are talking to... but effects will get more of a response than no effects, atleast thats my observation.

The question of "taste" is interesting, because most of my favorite editors I define not by "skill" as such, but precisely by this "taste" that they have.

Interestingly, it's very true that "taste" is a very individual thing. I can honestly recognize AMVs by most of my favorite editors here by nothing other than the way they approach their visuals and music.

Thus the question of effects on the editor front - what one editor can use well, others might not. That's where Beo is damned right, and that's why we have so many downright bad uses of effects - because editors copy effects, or even just feel that they have to use effects without understanding why their "inspiration video" had used them.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

It wasn't Koop's fault, nor was it AE's fault. Behind all those shitty videos are people who made them, who LIKE them, and who think they are AWESOME. AE doesn't create terrible effect clones. People with god awful fucking taste do.

You can't learn taste. If you genuinly think that those awful tacky effects look great, then thats it. You like it.

Thats why we have bad videos.
It's kind of like people with garden gnomes in their yard!

Yes! I am so loving what is said here.

Unless you graduated with a major in AMV with all honors classes and straight A's, an individual's opinion on a "tasteful AMV" is like hearing a cow make weird noises in the back of a pasture.

Basically, individual opinions by the minority on this subject are bull$#%&.

It really seems obvious that you never used AE. :|

But yeah, beo had a harsh way to say it, but brought it to the point. I generally try to respect the taste of the creator to a certain extend tho -> there are people to like effectsy stuff, and people who don't.

So let the war go on :|
