Something I don't understand.
Some people here have said AMVs are illegal, but how come they have AMV contests at certain anime cons?

from all my lurking this is what i have gathered:
1. it is not illegal to MAKE amvs it is illegal to distrobute them...
2. cons are supposed to pay fees for the music/anime they play... and if they dont then they are doing it illegally.
raido pays for fees to play the music they do, its a similar concept.

If you have larger bulks of money, securing song rights is easy, the RIAA and others have small forms you can fill out and immediately have access to the song. Most TV stations and Radio stations get reusable rights packages, which means that they can use the songs/albums/artists they purchased for a certain amount of time (usually purchased in 5 year batches, so you can use thta music on air for 5 years before reapplying for the license). This is why TV shows get the artist to endorse the show, so there is no license involved, the show was given explicit permission to use the song.JaddziaDax wrote:from all my lurking this is what i have gathered:
