dramatic song?

Post by odian0 » Mon Jun 06, 2005 9:20 pm

okay, i had this idea lately, and i decided i need a little help. but first, backstory time:

i really liked the video Heading For a New Century. the timing and effects were fantastic. i wanted to see the anime. i told my friend joe to download the video, and i asked him what he thought. he told me he had seen a bit of Gungrave, and it wasn't nearly as dramatic as the AMV made it out to be. i found the video even more amazing after that, because alkampfer81 really made Gungrave look dramatic.

anywho, that was the basis for my thoughts. so i decided: "wow, they can really make ANYTHING look dramatic with the right song and editing!" so i thought, how far can i take this idea? so i decided i wanted to do yet another AMV using Cat Soup, but this time take the most dramatic song i can find and make the movie look as dramatic as possible. so, here's my request:

a short (not much more then 2 minutes) song that is overly dramatic. (think E.S. Posthumus) any ideas?

Hmm.. Don't know much about "Cat Soup." Are you looking for lyrical or instrumental?

I'd suggest anything from the Lord of the Rings soundtrack, ie "Requiem for a Dream."

Um, the broadway musical "Les Miserables" has some big dramatic pieces.

Mebbe if you tell me a little about the animes, or more info on what you're looking for I can be more help.
Making an amv, is rather like being the director of a Broadway show, where you have a million dancers and each of them only knows one step.

Cat Soup is a relatively calm movie about a brother and sister cat. the sister's soul is half taken by Death and they go on a quest to get the rest back, which they eventually do by finding an orange flower. it's about 30 minutes, and with no speech in it, a few word bubbles pop up, but the audio doesn't play the biggest part really.

preferably, an instrumental song would work, but seeing as how the movie is short, and i'd have to use a lot of fast scene changes for this idea to work out, i'd need a relatively short song. so, that's about what i'm looking for.

No such track exists in teh LotR soundtracks.

What your talking about is the track "Requiem for a Tower" made specifically for promotional purposes for the The Two Towers by Simone Benyacar, Dan Nielsen, and Veigar Mairgersson. Based on the track Lux Aeternia (sp?) from the original score of "Requiem for a Dream" by Clint Mansell
"If you believe in yourself, eat all your school, stay on milk, drink your teeth, don't do sleep, and get your eight hours of drugs, you can get WORK!"

Hmmm, may I perhaps suggest "Path" by Apocalyptica

Or perhaps the opening theme for Angel (it's a bit more short, only about 50 seconds; performed by Darling Violetta )

Or maybe even shorten up some of Metallica's "Call of Ktulu"

I got a perfect one! "Buried Alive" by Dropkick Murphys. It's almost exactly 2 minutes long and way overdramatic with the constant beating of the drums, crazy guitars, bagpipes, and screaming voices. They're kind of a heavy rock band from Ireland, like Flogging Molly but better.
