I agree, but not with your second paragraph. If someone has the same concept there are many other possibilities than just those two. Someone could have never even seen the other video that it shares the same song/source/concept as, but it could still be fairly original concept. Maybe editor number two just thinks along the same lines as the first editor. Also, someone could indeed be copying the success of another's video, which is what everyone assumes happens when a video is released using the same song or song/anime combo. Another possibility could be that the second editor was trying to expand with the song and do something that the first editor didn't. This would be just for cases where someone's harassed for using only a song from a famous video.inthesto wrote:I still don't understand why this topic comes up.
there's more to the concept of a video than anime/song combination. Sometimes that will be the heart of it, but videos can still go in wildly different directions given that.
Also, if somebody else has a video that does have the same concept as yours, then that means one of two things. Either your concept wasn't terribly original in the first place, or the other editor thought your video sucked and tried to do a better job. Whether or not they actually did is irrelevant.
And if people want to edit using Engel or Must Be Dreaming, god damn let them.

Nah, that only happens in that one Arnold Schwarzenegger movie.Rozard wrote: Someone could have never even seen the other video that it shares the same song/source/concept as, but it could still be fairly original concept. I don't really buy that idea, but then again, I have a difficult enough time trying to believe that people actually steal others' videos and claim them as their own.Rozard wrote:Also, someone could indeed be copying the success of another's video, which is what everyone assumes happens when a video is released using the same song or song/anime combo.
That's basically a modified version of my second case. I think.Rozard wrote:Another possibility could be that the second editor was trying to expand with the song and do something that the first editor didn't. I've had parts of mine stolen, but not the whole thing that I know of...inthesto wrote:I have a difficult enough time trying to believe that people actually steal others' videos and claim them as their own.
well a friend once said she found a vid that took my video, but put it to different music, but i never found it, or got to see it..
either way, when i made my "third video"... was technically my second till someone told me it had been done, so in the middle of it i stopped working on it cause i didnt want to do a concept that had been done... then i went to look it up on the .org and there was nothing listed... now theres three (total including mine) lol... i donno if i inspired people to try to out do me or what (which wouldnt have been hard, as that vid sucks) but yea... either way if they thaught of it on their own, or if they hadnt, then it wouldnt matter... it was a pretty ovbious song/anime choice anyways..
though in the case of the stolen footage one where they used the same song/anime combo, they actually took footage from my AMV, the very same one... *ouch* but they moved my pieces around and didnt stick them in the same spots... i think they feared that i would find out... I did find out mostly because of a few things i did in my AMV that made it highly recognizable as my work... *ahem* that to me constitues laziness...

Well, I didn't mean to expand upon the concept of the previous video, I meant expand upon the possibilities for the song. To give an example and a self-promotion, my video I Have Seen uses a love song, but I use it to show Shinji's world falling apart around him. That's what I meant.inthesto wrote:That's basically a modified version of my second case.
