MPEG

I heard this is the best format for AMV's to be in, but my comp only knows how to save things to AVI or WMV... any one here know if a certain program is required to save things into MPEG?

MPEG-1 is the most widely compatible format, but that doesn't make it the best. You can get much better results visually by using a good MPEG-4 codec in a container like AVI (or OGM).

<a href="http://www.tmpgenc.net">TMPGEnc</a> is a popular MPEG encoder whose MPEG-1 encoding capability is free, and it accepts .WMV files. HOWEVER, you don't want to recompress a .WMV file unless it's got a really high bitrate.

You'd do much better to export a DV AVI and compress that.
