Effort does not equal time.
It's easy to do tedious work. Actually *creating* the effects, coming up with the concept of the effects - that would take effort. Putting them into practice with the busy-work, that's just time.
Just to add to this.
When I create my effects.. most isn't just tedious work. alot is the concept/visualization/design and how it integrates into the flow of what im working on. how things affect what im going to do later on. then come the questions of HOW it gets done and the tedious work involved sometimes in getting it to look perfect. I can easily say that its the integration thats the hardest part.. i've sketched out tons of designs to only throw them away because i had no need for it.
