request: anyone wanna make this amv?

Post by musicmusic » Sun Nov 21, 2004 12:55 am

I just joined here (woah so many great amvs to download), and personally, i'm hopeless at making AMVs. But I've had a few ideas and if anyone was bored enough to make them I would be just thrilled to see it!

A Ranma 1/2 amv to any of these songs:
Pharcyde - Passing me by (Ryoga-based)
Blessed Union of Soul - Hey Leo (Ranma + Akane)
Goo goo dolls - Slide (R + A)

So I just thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone shared my enthusiasm...

This isn't very useful, but I'm in the same boat. Nice to know not everybody here is a pro. I hear songs and I think "Wow, that would be perfect for ___" but I don't know how to make them into reality :( Good luck!

Well, here's a tip for you friends. I am somewhat familiar with Ranma, but fairly unfamiliar with your songs. Elaborate. *Sell* your idea. Infect other amvers with your enthusiasm. Explain why you think these pairs will work. Suggest scenes or arcs to use. Visualize it for amvers.
Making an amv, is rather like being the director of a Broadway show, where you have a million dancers and each of them only knows one step.

hey thanks for the advice, pinky75910! I'll go ahead and take it, but I don't have too much time to visit here because of school work, so I'll start with elaborating on one of the requests I made.

Blessed Union of Souls - Hey Leonardo (she likes me for me)

Firstly, here are the lyrics:
She don't care about my car
She don't care about my money
And that's real good 'cause I don't got alot to spend
But if I did it wouldn't mean nothin'

She likes me for me
Not because I look like Tyson Beckford
With the charm of Robert Redford oozing out my ears
But what she sees
Are my faults and indecisions
My insecure conditions
And the tears upon the pillow that I shed

She don't care about my big screen
Or my collection of DVD's
Things like that just never mattered much to her
Plus she don't watch to much t.v.

And she don't care that I can fly her
To places she ain't never been
But if she really wants to go
I think deep down she knows that
All she has to say is when

She likes me for me
Not because I hang with Leonardo
Or that guy who played in "Fargo"
I think his name is Steve
She's the one for me
And I just can't live without her
My arms belong around her
And I'm so glad I found her once again
And I'm so glad I found her once again
Yeah, I'm so glad I found her once again

Gazing at the ceiling
As we entertain our feelings in the dark
The things that we're afraid of are gonna show us
What we're made of in the end

[break]

She likes me for me
Not because I sing like Pavarotti
Or because she thinks I'm such a hottie
I like her for her
Not because she's phat like Cindy Crawford
She has got so much to offer
Why does she waste all her time with me ?
There must be something there that I don't see
I don't see

She likes me for me
Not because I'm tough like Dirty Harry
Make her laugh just like Jim Carrey
Unlike the Cable Guy
But what she sees
Is that I can't live without her
My arms belong around her
And I'm so glad I found her once again
Found her once again
Once again
Yeah, I'm so glad I found her once again

Don't be discouraged because they sound rather lame and quite strange, and before you start thinking "she must be crazy to want an AMV made to THAT song", download the song and listen to it, and hopefully read my arguments below!

Well, I've known this song for awhile because it came out quite a few years back - before I got into Ranma 1/2. Then after becoming an avid Ranma 1/2 fan, I heard it again randomly on my computer and it hit me that it fit the two leading protagnoist's love-tangle quite well. The whole song is about how the persona singing the song appreciates the fact that his girl, quite clearly, "likes me for me". This matches the dynamic between Ranma and Akane distinctively, as Rumiko Takahashi is frequently adding in other suitors and incidents to contrast between shallow lust and true feelings. For example, Shampoo, Ukyo and Kodachi all obsessively pursue Ranma for their own personal reasons, their attachments all being festered from (in their eyes) justifyable reasons for marriage. Their actions show a complete disregard for the feelings of Ranma and other people who get injured or ruined in the midst of their schemes (in one of the mangas, they went so far as destroying Ranma's mothers house to try to gain possession of a 'ring' ensuring marriage). Akane is much the same - she has an equal amount of suitors, perhaps slightly more sane than Ranma's mirrored counterparts, but nonetheless intently seeking Akane as a partner.
Now, despite all of these obstacles and reoccuring problems, Ranma and Akane seem to develop a genuine and deep affection for each other throughout the course of the anime and manga. It is not a simplistic "love at first sight" cliche, rather Takahashi shows how through experiences together and actually learning about each other they foster an (abnormal, but nonetheless strong) friendship and romantic regard for each other.
This song is light-hearted, with strong segments of music which will match many scenes in Ranma 1/2 (fighting scenes, running, jumping on roofs, etc) and the overall message absolutely fits in.
As the song is in first person perspective, "I, me", and a male singer, it would probably focus on Ranma, and how Akane likes him for who he is, "and what she sees, are my faults and indiscrections, my insecure conditions", not solely for his martial arts skills and ability to be charismic. It is likewise for Ranma's feelings towards Akane, he knows her for who she is, and admirers her stubborn ability to never give up, her kindness and that "she has got so much to offer".
Overall, the song provides an excellent opportunity for an AMV, despite the modern/western references that might not literally match Ranma 1/2 material (car, dvds, big screen tv) but these items can be seen as symbolic; as in the Ranma world what is recognised is apperance, fitness and wealth. The tone of the song, the lyrics and the message are all fitting for Ranma 1/2, and I would absolutely love to see an AMV made to it: and would do it myself if I had more time (darn school work) and more experience.
