Stop modestly bragging, jerk.Otohiko wrote:Hell, if even I managed to score a near-10 in originality average on an Eva video, you can do it to something that has been used 70 times.

Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

Isn't that an oxymoron?flint_the_dwarf wrote:Stop modestly bragging, jerk.
I'm just denoting my limited editing skill. I think whatever originality I may have stems more from the fact that the music I listen to and thus use in AMV's is rather 'far out' and whatever. Take away my music preferences, and you'll just have another explosion-footage-loving wannabe

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

The trick to being original is simply to do whatever isn't being done. That the series has been done in some 70 AMVs doesn't necessarily mean that every one of those videos was any good, or that the series doesn't have something in it that other AMV makers might have overlooked. (70 is actually rather low, in my estimate. I can easily look through a catalogue of 70 AMVs without seeing even one I'd care to watch, because they're all set to nasty music.) Considering that some AMV viewers (me!) are very selective in what they watch, your AMV might be the first they ever see of the anime series.
Having music no one has used before is effective, as is choosing an off-beat theme: if everyone else is doing funny stuff, a serious video seems very original, and if everyone is doing drama, a humorous video can draw more laughs than usual. Having no special effects in the video is no obstacle to the viewer; indeed, special effects that are too flashy may actually distract from the piece. Just be sure to time your clips carefully.
To avoid using clips that have been used a million times already, just ask yourself whether you're choosing a given clip because it advances the video's "story" or theme, or because it "looks cool." If it's just there to be flashy, pick something different. I estimate that choosing clips that advance the video's theme over flashy but irrelevant clips will put you ahead of a good 90% of other AMV makers, because I've seen so many videos composed of well-nigh random flashy clips. As long as the AMV's good, your viewers can easily forgive you if it happens to seem a little derivative.
