The star scale is complete bullshit. Thats not the system's fault, its the people that inhabit the system.

If it's an avi or mpeg, and I can't play it for some reason, I'll rate it based of the description they gave in the write-up. Most of the time, a 3.

If it's RM or quicktime, I do pretty much the same thing, then subtract a point or two for using those systems.

Regarding the star system;

I've gotten the following star rankings so far (doing reverse averaging. I wish they'd give you a bar graph, but *shrugs*)

4, 3, 3, 3, 1, 2, 1

Such a wide spread seems to indicate a technical problem, but I'm not sure what. It doesn't seem like my video would not be worth a 1 under any circumstance, even if someone didn't actually like it.

Is someone spamming the system? It seems my ratings always get better after the first week or so ( presumably when people search for it for it's content rather than as a new release? ) Any thoughts?

hmm...maybe people have different opinions or already judge the video before they even watch it. it sucks but what can we do?

anyhow...how do u check what stars people give you? i can only find the number of stars and the average of them.

Reverse averaging

Post by wiserd » Mon Aug 30, 2004 2:31 pm

I checked the stars people were giving me by recording each as they came, noting the change in my average, and calculating a reverse average. You have to sit by the computer and count them. One. at. a. time. :? But I was online for the first day after I posted my video, so I figured I'd give it a try.

There isn't a way to check the actual stars, like, conveniently. Would be nice.
