Looking for an instrumental...
I'm looking to do a showdown video, and I'm looking for a good song that screams "fight!" I'd really prefer an instrumental, something along the lines of Battle Without Honor or Humanity from Kill Bill. I'm looking for either dramatic and epic, or fast-tempo and twitchy.
The video is going to be a little tongue-in-cheek, but please don't suggest Mortal Kombat. 8)
Thanks.

record of lodus war has some excellent instrumental peices with dramatic tones.
Otherwise, if you'd concider OC remixes, www.ocremix.com is where i got the song for AR, and they have alot of synth mixes that may fit your criteria. just otta do alot of searching. Noteable artitst to look through are Mazedude, and Jared Hudson. (not to say ignore the rest, those are just some of the ones I know are good)
I'm not big in the classical music area, so I'm sure someone else could suggest songs in that area.

Kick ass music
If it's hand-to-hand or swords-n-stuff, but without specifically Asian martial arts (like flying kicks, guys in ninja get-up, or nunchaku) you might try any number of Celtic/Scottish instrumental works. Something with a bodhran going to keep the blood up! ARRRRrrrrrr! (whack - crash - thud - skewer...)

It's really more dark and foreboding than epic. I would know, I just spent a couple of months making one to Memories: Magnetic Rose and I know those seven minutes backwards, forwards, and sideways.TobinHood wrote:Orchestral Versionel_farlo wrote:requiem for a dream overture
I would recommend something from the Lord of the Rings soundtrack because Tolkin is about as epic as you can get and the music was written with that in mind.
If you do use Requiem defiantly track down the orchestral version, it’s much better than the soundtrack one.
And yes I am aware that Requiem is on the LOTR Soundtrack (I think it was the trailer music,) so I’m being a bit contradictory, but that’s just too bad.

If you want something a little less commonly used, try "Rawhide" by Link Wray and the Wraymen. It's got all the energy of a knock-down drag-out fight and I've seen it used to introduce one of the Nekketsu games for the SNES, so there's sort of a precedent for using it in a fight scene.
You could also try "Woo-Hoo" by Rock-A-Teens, "Wild Weekend" by the Rebels, or the self-explanatorily titled "Wham!" by Lonnie Mack.

Thanks minna-san for the input. I've got some great leads to check out.
However, I have been seriously considering DotF for its immediate recog factor.
Gotta run to my local B&N and check out the music machines. Muchi obligati to those that suggested.

That's a good lead. Started searching there and so far my search has branched many fold. F'rinstance, I never knew Download.com had such a deep collection of free mp3s.Bakadeshi [AuN Studios] wrote:Otherwise, if you'd concider OC remixes, www.ocremix.com is where i got the song for AR, and they have alot of synth mixes that may fit your criteria. just otta do alot of searching.
Very true, the DDR soundtracks should have been the first place I looked. One of the other criteria for the song I'm looking for is recognizability - very important for a parody video.IcyCloud wrote:I'm not much of an instrumental music afficionado, but I'd suggest "Tsugaru", by RevenG vs. De-Sire. It's on the DDRMAX2 soundtrack. Fast-paced, twitchy, battle type song with a few slow, dramatic pauses.
Two words. Ashley MacIsaac. I know, I know, he's really Cape Breton, not continental Celtic, but his fiddle is vicious. Seriously. Check him out - he's probably best known down here for his work on Due South, but his solo albums are phenomenal.Geirr wrote:If it's hand-to-hand or swords-n-stuff, but without specifically Asian martial arts (like flying kicks, guys in ninja get-up, or nunchaku) you might try any number of Celtic/Scottish instrumental works. Recognizable=good in this case. Besides, it's gives me an excuse to pick up the LOTR soundtracks.pen-pen2002 wrote:I would recommend something from the Lord of the Rings soundtrack because Tolkin is about as epic as you can get and the music was written with that in mind.

OMG - what if I combined ROLW with DotF? I bet I could... wait, no, it's been done.downwithpants wrote:duel of the fates - john williams - the phantom menace OST
Oldies and goodies. When I was listing to these, they made me look at songs in other genres as possibilities.Rorschach wrote:If you want something a little less commonly used, try "Rawhide" by Link Wray and the Wraymen.
