If you want to make money off editing, why not be go legit? (and not like a lot of people...they have a computer in the living room and mom brings sandwiches but they call themselves a production house) Solicit and edit real footage. Pay the royalty fees for the music that you will use like a DJ would and get people's home videos and make music videos of their wedding or kids.

If you are to the point you want to make money off your equipment and skill, make a biz out of it (noted: I have no clue how old you are but success can start young) and keep the amvs on the side as the hobby they are meant to be.

Put it this way.

When asked about copyright and amvs, gainax staff basically said Copyright is only for professionals, fans need to learn their talents somewhere so a little copyright infringement is fine.

HOwever, the instant you start making money from your services you stop doing it for just fandom. Making money from directly using someone elses work is exactly what copyright is designed to prevent. Make videos for fun an NON profit, fine... make some money and your copryight infringement suddenly becomes a real issue.

In short, it's BAD m'kay?

The only people you would be able to do comission videos for are the anime companies themselves and it would have to be to music they own the rights to.

I shall make my view point simple and too the point:

1. Selling AMVs is illegal.

2. No self respecting creator or even fan would want you to make a vid for them. The joy of AMVs is actually making them. Its like asking someone to go and spend your money for you, although you still get the items you lose the fun of actually buying them.

3. Editing for a living isn't too bad but not too many people will just hire anybody to edit for them. I myself run a editing company *cough* MAS Productions *cough* and I make some pretty good money off it, but I edit commercials and make pretty cool vids for weddings and such. No way on earth would I charge people to make amvs for them, nor would I make amvs for them anyways.

4. RIAA, need I say more?

.....and this ladies and gentlemen ends my opinions.

Probably right...

Yeah, the more I'm reading here, the more I'm agreeing with people myself. I think I'm going to ditch the idea of taking AMV requests. Thing is, I'm not desperate for money, I just know a lot of people who ask me to make AMV's for them, and even though I want to, I just don't have the time to do it for them.

Then again, if this were my anime I worked on, I'd be pretty mad with someone selling videos of it. So, thanks guys for your feedback. I really apprecaite it, and I think I got talked out of a bad idea.
