question about rendering...please help!

Post by hikari-sama » Mon Apr 28, 2003 1:36 am

hao, minna! i'm new here, i'm still trying to make my first AMV... i know. "loser!" :| sigh, in any case, i apologize profusely if this question has already been asked a million times, but i didn't even really know where to begin to look for the answer... i'm working on a vid that i think will be really cool and i hope will do this server justice, but i'm having a little trouble when i export the file... i'm in adobe premiere 6.0, and whenever i export the file, or even preview it, it comes out all fuzzy and pixillated... can anybody tell me what i'm doing wrong? i've tried adjusting a bunch of different settings, but to be honest, i'm really not sure what a lot of them do... >_< "loser!!" i'm working with dvd qual footage, but it always comes out looking like something i taped from TV with bad reception. i can't post it that way! i was at anime boston and i listened very intently to the wonderful panel some of you guys hosted...you really gave me a good grindstone to work at...if i can just hurdle this one stupid setback, i think i can make you guys proud!

someone please help out an aspiring artist! onegai shimasu!

~~hikari, hoping to rely on the kindness of strangers...

Try to read AD&E's guide. The solution should be there.
I think that you've selected a bad video codec for your export (in section "video" of the project settings in Premiere). You should use something like DivX, mpeg, (or HuffYUV but then you'd have to recompress it with VirtualDub)

Can you tell which codec you use for export ?

And next time, ask that kind of question in "video software help"

sorry, gues i haven't gotten the ropes of the forum yet... ::bows:: i've tried a couple different codecs for export...DivX was my first try, but it didn't help, or it screwed up the picture so it was half off the screen. O_o and for some reason, i only seem able to render to avi, there's no option for MPEG, which was what i had wanted to do. any thoughts? do i need to download an update to the software or something to get these options?

~~hikari, going to check the guides again, a little frazzled

Yes, I think you have to use plugins in premiere to export to mpeg.

For DivX, maybe you have to change the settings of the codec (increase the bitrate).
In premiere , there is a button "configure" near the codec (in "video").
Also remember that the "project settings" are not the same as the "export settings", so make sure to configure the export settings when you export the movie.

and...

Well I wouldn't try to export in a compressed codec like DivX from Premier.

Export from Premier in a codec like Huffyuv or uncompressed .AVI then do your final compression into DivX in VirtualDub. Or if you want to do an .mpeg, use TmpegEnc.
