"Official" music videos which are AMVs

Post by Katranat » Thu Aug 21, 2025 2:32 pm

I want to start a thread to keep track of official music videos which are AMVs. I've realised there might be few of these? I'm not talking about music videos which have anime created specifically for them (Porter Robinson's Shelter for example, Interstella 555 is also ineligible), no I'm referring to music videos that use already released anime footage which gets cut up as part of a music video (like what we do here).

Found this one today - there's a few uploads and alternate versions of this. Looking at the info from different upload descriptions and comment context it seems like this was played on MTV in Europe in 1999.
Linking this one because it's the official upload, though it's also age restricted because GITS

A classic I remember watching on TV as a kid

Some more recent music artists have turned to AMV creators to make official MV's for their music

Any others please add them here.

this was edited by one of the band members himself. I know this because he DM'd me his beta versions.

Matthew Sweet in the 90's was using anime in his music videos before they anime became a mainstay and a pop culture phenomenon as it is today.

The other one im reminded of is that Speed Racer techno song

Nostromo collaborated with Sugar Jesus to make the official music video for their "Get A Hold Of Yourself" song. They also changed their song to go better with his AMV and uploaded the Get a Hold of Yourself (Nostromo 'Binary Overdrive') Version to their channel

Machine Supremance also asked VIDOK to make the official video for their "Gimme More" song

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daytona_500_(song)
To complement the fast-paced nature of the track, the music video for "Daytona 500" shot from October 1–2, 1996 and is composed of clips from the original anime series Speed Racer. It is also one of the first and earliest anime music videos to be shown on a TV channel, and currently is one of the most popular anime music videos.
What in the world does "shot from October 1-2, 1996" mean? It's an AMV. "Shot" doesn't mean "edited" and they're just pulling those dates out of thin air.

This kind of meaningless nonsense, routinely cited as fact without any sources, has made tracing the actual history of this one nothing but a series of dead ends. This video is indeed actually old, I don't know what happened to the original upload but it's much, much older than the date of the upload.

Also... this is constantly being referred to as Speed Racer when watching it for half a minute makes it obvious that that's not what it is. It's something totally different:

Why even bother preserving lost media if you're not going to preserve the original aspect ratio?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scream_(M ... kson_song)
The video has influences of Japanese sci-fi anime; in the background screens, several clips can be seen of the television series Zillion (1987) and Babel II (OVA, 1992), and the films Vampire Hunter D (1985) and Akira (1988).
Spotted at 0:34, 0:43, 1:12, 4:36 and 4:38.

Donatachi had a couple of these made in the run-up to their EP release last year, when they were doing quite a lot of Eva-themed marketing. Both videos are credited to Michael Bontiz:
