A Little Help for a Research Project: Fan Video Survey

Post by mckaien » Fri Apr 01, 2011 6:30 am

Hope this is okay to post this ^^

(I realised it's a bit bad timing to post on April 1 but this isn't a joke or anything)

I'm doing a research topic for uni about fan-mixed videos- which include AMVs but can extend to unofficial music videos, trailer parodies, etc.

I'm trying to convince how videos like AMVs can be beneficial for both fan creators as well as those in the creative industry (as tools for creative expression as well as promotion of the original sourced audio/video). It would be great to get the perspective of those who make these videos, like the AMV community here and would be really grateful, if you could answer these few questions (if you'd like to submit it by PM instead of this thread that's also fine).

For Fan-mixed Video (includes but not limited to AMVs) creators:

1. How did you get started in making these fan-mixed videos? What was your first experience like?

2. Why do you make these videos?

3. How do you feel about using other people's work (audio or video)?

4. How much do you care about any legal issues in creating these videos?

5. How much do you care about any moral issues in creating these videos?

6. What should change in order to make these videos more acceptable?

a) business models of record/video companies
b) Copyright laws
c) both
d) none
e) other: please suggest

7. How do you feel about a compromise between fan creators and the creative industry to create a forum or space that allows fans to use other works more easily and legally?

Hope to hear your answers and any information given will be used for academic purposes :)
