HELP D:

Post by xPiikanyaa » Thu Mar 11, 2010 3:30 pm

Okay, so I've been having this problem ever since I first started editing. No matter how hard I try, my videos never seem to flow properly... it all just looks so boring. My AMVs never seem to have the energy that other videos have. Is this just me, or is there something I'm doing wrong here? :<

Chances are that you're not doing anything wrong. You're probably that type of person(I am too) who always aims too high but should just really make an AMV and get it over with.

Weird my browser had a hiccup and posted without me doing anything.

But to help you with your problem, you should probably try working with scene selection(Some scenes have more emotion than others) and transitioning between scenes(Well placed hard cuts are more "umph", crossfades usually help flows scenes together better). When crossfading, it's best that the two scenes have similar color schemes going on and when making hard cuts, it's best to keep the motion going in the same direction and not to go from fast moving scenes to static scenes.

Usually when a person considers their AMV boring, it means they have seen another video similar to it. Try doing something totally new so even if your AMV isn't great, it won't be boring either. Another tip is to watch your AMV as little times as possible while making it. Personal experience.
I do all the right things for all the wrong reasons.

No, it isn't just you, it happened to me a lot as well. I guess that sometimes one is more self-critic of its own works and finds out more flaws on it than it other people's ones. At least in my case. Although when I'm in the process of creating them I almost always think they look just good. It's after some time that it feels it doesn't have the same touch.

Maybe is the fact that I've been reviewing it each time every 2s of footage :P

sometimes the editor can't see it because they're focusing on scenes and lyrics and stuff. Basically they're clouded when it comes to flow. (that's what happens when I'm editing, then after i haven't watched the amv in a while, i watch it and i feel the flow) The viewer however is watching the video not knowing what scene will come up next, so they can feel for flow better than the editor can.
I really hope that makes sense  'cause trust me, i know how you feel.
