You should really call it "video remixing". The word "Amateur" can be taken the wrong way. :x
hehe ive yet to bring it up in a work place or in an interview - mostly because i haven't had a job since 2004 @_@ and that's the year i started making amvs O.o

I usually list "video editing" in my hobbies.

In the first editing job I got, the boss kept playing my amv in the other room to show people. that was kind of weird LOL

In my current job, i haven't mentioned amvs, they just know I like to edit.

I think it all depends. With my first job, I had no reel, so I had to resort to amv's. For future work, it would depend, but I always list it as a hobby.

well, I guess it depends, im studying administration , I dont think that "VIDEO EDITING" can bring any difference or benefit for my resume, but if you are aspiring as a graphical designer, publicity or film industry, this hobby could be really usefull :D

"My hobbies are reading and sports!" or "My hobbies? I have lots of hobbies..."
Both of the above statements are from an anime. You guess it, you get a cookie!!!!!

I just list video editing under my general skills. Under hobbies, video remix culture. (which is cool, cause you get asked about it) Just because you only edit anime music videos doesn't mean that you can't edit some random corporate video or presentation slideshow or even a music video for your company. Remember that sometimes people can be easily impressed, and what is easy for you might be hard and worth some money to somebody else.

My mom listed "design" on her resume when she applied to be a health educator. Her qualificaitons were that she had a few art classes in college, in 1977. Now she mostly does press releases, brochures, that kind of thing, and loves it. It also got her more money. She really only uses MS word and Powerpoint and people love it.

I've shown a lot of people I work with my stuff because they asked about what I do and what I like, etc., and the first response I usually get is "holy hell, why aren't you doing this for a living" or "why aren't you in hollywood" You never know where you will make an impact, so don't sell your skills short, just try and think of how you can use your video editing to add value to your resume. The important thing is that you stay honest though, don't claim to know stuff you don't. (And besides, if you're going for a video job, your reel will show that anyway, and you probably won't have amv's on it.)
