ever had an anime ruin your amv idea?

i personally don't do an amv to any series that haven't finished.
i also won't even think about making it unless i've viewed the series two or three times through fully, to make sure it has all that i want.

What the other people said - use the manga. Be flexible , with masking and good editing the climax with manga stills might be way better than a normal fighting scene.
To answer the q in the topic - yeah sometimes, but not in the way you described. There are times when I plan in my head AMV to series I had watched long time ago, and I remember scenes a bit differently then they really are. Then I sit down and start the editing and - suprise - those "awesome scenes" look like piece of crap. :<
