Story in Video

my amv normally follow the rough chronological order of the movie that I make it from, however if i'm using footage from a series I tend to use random scenes in no particular order to get it to mould around the music.

but im lazy so i prefer making vids from movies. *rings the cowbell*

Are you making AMV for living? I doubt it. So it's your hobby. Then why you care what others think about it? Make the AMV how you like it. Period.

Depends. If it's an action or dance video, story is usually irrelevant, though it can definitely add to either. But if it's something like drama or romance, the story is what makes the video.

Or maybe that's just for me.

Some tell stories within the video

I've been searching for these "story" videos for quite some time. The few which have any semblance of plot are laughably simple. I've yet to see any well-done AMV with a sensible three-part story arc. I seem to recall someone willing to prove me wrong with a narrative song called "go". That, of course, never got done.

I don't care really, it can be a sum up of the anime, or an original story or if you just match every lyric in the song... All I know is I just like an AMV to be about SOMETHING.

I don't really like AMVs that are just random clips about nothing.

Even videos that have a basic theme of "fights where people nearly get beaten to death" and then they show those fights. At least it's about something....

Really though, I don't see many completely random videos anymore, and that's a good thing. The only videos I can think of like that now are the old DBZ videos I used to like...

If you're not making awesome eye candy (and some times even if you are) you need to have some sort of story. Now your story may be the anime's story, or it might not, but the fewer series you use, the more important the story is. That said. You could throw together a vid with a LOT of series and successfully have no real story, but instead rely on good clip selections and your audience's memories of the elements all of your sources have in common and create something memorable.

well, in order to tell a story the characters must speak - which sometimes destroys the AMV.

From an Animators point-of-view it better have a Plot to it .. or its just Wrong!!!

decide `First if you will follow the Music or have the Music describe the scene; not both.
[[ too many people today are trying to do both yet, without a Plot -- it just looks like hell. ]]
