Well, if its a teacher I would say, about 5 to 10 A grades ^_^
Anyho, I think it really depends on how much he wants with the site. If it's rather just a little homepage with like 3 links or so, I would make it for nothing (it's good if the teacher owes you something ^^). But for a real website, the charge could count up to a few 100 bucks. I think...

Hmm, if the teacher really was a pain in the ass, you of course should let him pay o.O
But serious, it really depends on the size of the site. And wheter he wants fancy PHP scripts, counters and the likes, or just his little static page on the web. Well, all I can say about prices is what I usually got when making websites. I once made this website for a company around my town, and I finished it in about 1-2 month, and got around 300 Euros (=Dollars) for it. And I made this when working at the Schenck company as a practicant. I got around 1300 Euros for that one, but it was far more work to do, read thru every content page, parse them for errors, and all the likes.

Well, back to the teacher I would say, just ask him gently what he would pay for a site, and then tell him what you would expect.

Peace out,

If you are secure about your web page abilities and you think what he wants isn't TOO complex.

Then I would say $100 - $200

If you have no idea what you're doing or are a insecure little bastard, then $50 would be okay I guess :p

Well to be a "designer" now adays means alot more then just html :\

Means knowing things like:

ASP
PHP
CGI
PERL
Java
JavaScript
HTML
XML
SQL
CSS
Flash/Shockwave
Photoshop
Illustrator
DreamWeaver(or some other web author tool).
Also being knowledgable using Microsoft's IIS or Apache.

damn....I guess it's 50 bucks for me  until I learn all those stuff, then I'll raise the price! but then not all sites need all that stuff...so maaayyyybe I can slip in a few more 50's here and there
all I can work with now is HTML and I can do flash. but I can't do anything technical that involves any code whatsoever. I was trying to do this whole calendar thing where you type in text boxes and it sets it up on the calendar...but i was totally cluuuuuuueless. so I found a site that does it for me instead! :D
and what are Cascading Style Sheets exactly?...not definition wise...like what's their purpose...what do you use it for and how can you use it?

A tutorial. No I haven't read it and I haven't a clue as to exactly how CSS works since I don't mess with web stuffs. Well as the site states :

CSS Tutorial Site wrote: What is CSS?
&nbsp*CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets
&nbsp*Styles define how to display HTML elements
&nbsp*Styles are normally stored in Style Sheets
&nbsp*Styles were added to HTML 4.0 to solve a problem
&nbsp*External Style Sheets can save you a lot of work
&nbsp*External Style Sheets are stored in CSS files
&nbsp*Multiple style definitions will cascade into one
The website is @
