more final fantasy sequels?

from psm magazine january 2003:

hot on the heels of squares final fantsy x-2 announcement rumors have begun to surface in japans stating that we may be in for more "dash two" follow ups to earlier final fantasy titles.The current word making rounds in japanese press is that the legendary PSone RPG,Final Fantasy VII, may be the first to recieve a sequel-wether or not wether or not this game would arrive before OR after the yet-to-be revealed final fantasy XII remains to be seen.

PSM gave this rumour 50% probability

i dont know about you but if this is true this could the best video game news to me in a long time

There was a FF6 Gaiden for SNES made directly following the release of FF6 in Japan, but it never saw release as Square decided to focus its attention on creating a game for the next generation of platforms. Indeed, some of the original ideas for FF7 included using the characters from FF6. The earliest promotional gameshots for ff7 show 3D chibi versions of Terra and Shadow

. Eventually, these ideas were dumped, for what ever reasons SQUARE decided on, and we got Cloud and crew instead.

I liked 6 and 7 both the same. I wouldn't mind sequals to either. Dunno why they're starting with FFX-2, seeing as FFX was a peice of shit compared to 6 and 7. Don't get me wrong, it wasnt a bad game, but it was still one of the lesser games of the series.

This is proof that they're running out of ideas.

But it doesn't have to be THAT bad, but I won't really care unless they do one for 4-6.

A sequel of VI would rock....though I'd still like to see the whole game taken and given the graphics of the newer FFs. I actually disagree with a sequel concept for FF, but if one did have to exist....I think it should definately be VI.
