An Early Christmas Message
I received two pieces of negative news.
A guy I used to know... who was once a friend over 12 years ago, but I hadn't seen him since... well, I found out he had died just a little bit ago. He was only in his mid 30's.
On the same day I learned that, I also learned that another, much closer friend of mine had lost his mother this week.
I was very sad to hear the news, but it made me think about a much more important thing...
LIFE.
While life can never be perfect, while it will always be filled with pain and sorrow, I think that given this time of year, we should appretiate who we are and what opportunities we have around us.
Consider that in some countries, war rages day to day and life is nothing but horror and misery
and in this country, there are people who have it so bad that we can't begin to imagine how much sorrow there is for them.
We should be grateful for our many opportunities.
We should be considerate of those around us, friends and family that we have around us who love us and care for us.
Try to take a bad memory or a bad event in your life and find a positive in it and see if you can turn the memory into something new. Maybe something even slightly better.
I will say Merry Christmas for now and hope you don't mind my sentimental thoughts in this time of strong emotions both good and bad.

There are two kinds of people in this world:
Those who divide people into two kinds of groups
and those who don't.

Can you feel life movin' through your mind?
Ooh, looks like it came back for more!
Yeah yeah yeah!
Can you feel time slippin' down your spine,
Ooooooh, You try and try to ignore!
Yeah!
But you can hardly swallow,
Your fears and pain..
When you can't help but follow,
It puts you right back where you came!
Live and learn!
Hanging on the edge of tomorrow,
Live and learn!
From the works of yesterday.
Live and learn!
If you beg or if you borrow,
Live and learn!
You may never find your way.
Whooooa, yeah!
Can you feel life tangle you up inside?
Yeah, now you're face down on the floor!
Oh!
But you can't save your sorrow,
You've paid in trade!
When you can't help but follow,
It puts you right back where you came.
Hey, whoa, whoa,
Oh yeeeeeeeeeeeah!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!
There's a face searching far, so far and wide!
There's a place where you dream you'd never find!
Hold on to what if?
Hold on to what if?
Live and learn!
Hanging on the edge of tomorrow!
Live and learn!
From the works of yesterday!
Live and learn!
If you beg or if you borrow!
Live and learn!
You may never find your way!!
Go write your message on the pavement.
Burn it so bright, I wonder what the wave meant!
Can't stop the gods from engineering,
Feel no need for any interfering.
Your image in the dictionary..
This life is more than ordinary.
Can't stop the spirits when they need you.
This life is more than just a read-through!

I think I can understand the situation. This is the first Christmas my grandmother isn't with us. Thanksgiving was a bit odd.
I even had a moment christmas shopping where I thought of her and then remembered I no longer had to think of her. That was pretty sad, but it's all ok. She lived a long life, told me happy stories about her childhood, and I have fond memories of her.
I believe life is all about experience. I don't believe in an afterlife of any kind...(short of the fact that the energy that you had before your death has to go somewhere else when you die) so to me, life is all about what you experience when you are here.
Even in a lot of war torn countries, people still have their families and lives. It's little comfort when you are cold and hungry though I know. But I also believe life isn't completely miserable for everyone.
You still have the sunsets, the warm breezes, anytime you can find your mood in good enough spirits to laugh...you have something then. The world was set up on a rather cruel principle...live and die.
It's something we all have to face but in the meantime, that is where we can have something more than many other creatures on the planet.
In a world of so many people, it can't all be good times. But when we look back, we tend to forget about the pain involved. It helps make things in the present a little easier to cope with.
We are self aware, sentient beings..we can feel pain but we can also feel happiness. I wish the latter on everyone this holiday

life in an intermission; a smaller part of the greater whole that beakons us toward eternal longevity. if you're scared, follow what you know to be true and don't ever stop. stay with what you can. influence the people you love and have fun doing it, because they'll remember you fondly in their souls and further you to every kind of grace.
if you live once, you can never die.
if you live once, you can never die.

you're exactly right. Our purpose here is to experience all that we can. However, you're wrong about the afterlifeMistyCaldwell wrote: I believe life is all about experience. no big debates about the afterlife though for that will turn the thread into a huge controversey, but from what I've learned there's quite a rich afterlife of learning and experience left after the crude and clunky physical body fades
