WTH? Enix buys Square?
http://news.gaminghorizon.com/media/1038284536.html
A few things happened this year that many of us knew about a couple weeks in advance, but one thing we didn’t see coming was the purchase of Square. Enix, the company behind the Dragon Quest series and the recently released Robot Alchemic Drive announced earlier today that they will begin to merge with Square to become Square Enix. The company stated that the merge will reach its final stage on April 1st and will produce 80 billion yen ($656 million) in sales and 15 billion yen ($123 million) in profit by fiscal 2005.
The financial statement released today stated that shareholders in both companies will receive 0.81 shares of Enix stock for every Square stock they hold. Expect more details on the company’s merger later today when Square holds a press conference in Japan at 3:30pm.

I just laugh at people who think that's a bad thing. While Square's execution is high quality, their ideas have been recyled over and over and over. Enix has had a wider variety of innovations and quirkier, more original ideas in most aspects, though their execution is somewhat lower quality.
Let's hope Enix can kick Square in the ass to do something DIFFERENT for a change, and then take their graphical artists.

Wont that kinda be a monopoly? Enix and square are probably the best rpg developers out now. Would there really be any other competition?

Nobody else big to my knowledge, but there are a bunch of little guys: Konami and their Suikoden - now the biggest second-party RPG series out there, I guess - Working Designs/whatever the hell their counterpart is that I can't remember 'cause it's 1AM and my brain is fried, errrm... whoever makes Megami Tensei/Persona...HellBlazer wrote:Wont that kinda be a monopoly? .......anyway, a bunch of companies with a game/series apiece, basically.
