Chronotrigger from the Final Fantasy Chronicles PSX game

Post by MistyCaldwell » Thu Nov 14, 2002 4:51 am

Alright..I have tried to search for an answer to this online elsewhere but to no avail.

I used to have the SNES game of Chronotrigger and recently rented it to relive some old school RPG goodness. Well, as any of you who have played the playstation version know, they have added neat animated sequences here and there.

One of those is at the main ending. We get to see Crono and Nadia wed and then Lucca is walking along and finds this baby in the woods who just came from a gate and is wearing the pendant from either Schala or the Princess.

Does anyone know who this kid is? Is it anything to do with Chrono Cross maybe? In between playing the game and making pumpkin cookies I have searched away online but found nothing. I though I'd give it a shot to ask here in case one of you guys might know

It's probably Kidd, cuz didn't lucca take care of her in cross, I haven't played in awhile but thats my guess. I'm sure it has to do with cross since the FMV came out after cross, and the trigger group makes a cameo on in cross.

In Chrono Cross, Kid is a sort of "clone" of Schala who is taken care of by Lucca until Lucca's house is burned down and she's killed. So the child you see in the ending most likely is Kid from Chrono Cross. Schala meanwhile sorta merged with Lavos and weird stuff happens. I didn't quite understand all of Chrono Cross cause it was either badly written or badly translated, possibly both. Once you get further towards the ending things start getting more and more confusing and it's like the writers were trying to out-do Xenogears in terms of plot twists/complexity which you just can't do because Xenogears is so bad ass :)

Spoilers!

(Why are you here if you haven't played these games anyway?!)

Alright. Ermac, I think it was just that Chrono Cross was badly translated because I heard from someone who's played the Japanese version and understands Japanese that the story is a lot more clear and sensible than the American one. More clear and sensible in the way that you're only very confused at the end.

Now... at first I was pretty sure that the child was Schala or Janus. It seemed to make some sense that way, but after playing Chrono Cross through twice, I think Ermac's right about this. Kid would logically make more sense in the main fact that I don't think that child could be Schala. But! I was under the impression at first that Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross took place not only at different times, but on different worlds. Which would make it difficult for the child to be Kid. Ahh well, I guess it could be the same world theoretically.

But you're wrong about Xenogears, Ermac! Chrono Trigger/Cross will always beat that game!

J/k

But Chrono Trigger will. :P

...wha? The girl who was the master of fire??? She practicaly had a flame-proof suit available from her father and she *dies in a fire*????

It's almost funny if it wasn't so tragic.

I had heard too that Chrono Cross was not a sequel but more likely took inspiration from ChronoTrigger. I had figured the kid was some reference to Cross in any case. Thanks for the good tie together ErMac.

Boy do I miss the old sprite RPGs :D

Well youv also gotta remember..chrono cross isnt a direct sequal to chrono trigger. But i think its stoopid how schala has blonde hair and looks like a child(on lavos's back). Trigger iz my 1st fave rpg also...id say xenogears iz around my 5th all time fav.(because about 60% of dat game iz text..which wouldnt be a bad thing cept u cant skip any of it..specailly after u beat it and wanna play over to do other things :? )

She had blond hair because the the only reason it ws blue is because they had to dye it blue, it isn't going to stay blue unless she got off lavos and re-dyed it.

Ok, In chrono trigger it schala's hair was blue because they dyed it blue, but once on lavo's she could exactly have the dye delivered so her hair turned back to its natural color.
