Great way to ruin Go.
In this message, Go shall be define to be the standard:
$Id Go 21-7-720 2.0.0 Japanese
not the Chinese original legacy version:
$Id Go 11-2-550 1.0.0 Chinese
and my new version will be (once I commit the changes):
$Id Go 18-7-2003 2.1.7 danielwang
sorry ducks. just got done using the cvs.
You've all heard my suggestions for "improving" the traditional game of Go 2.0.0 nihon by modifying it to use triangles, hexagons, no? Even make it a three-player game, which is really complicated.
But not backwards compatible with legacy system. So how do we make Go more challenging, without making these changes?
This modification will work up to $Id Go 3-11-300bc 0.0.97 Chinese.
Take the clear stones. But there are two players, no? WHite and Black.
Put the clear stones down on some predetermined, random, or arbitrary spots.
Now, it is your choice whether they can be used for completion or not, and whether they can be captured or not. Maybe they are nulls, can't do anything. Maybe they can be captured and counted, but cannot be used to complete a line. Maybe completion, but not capture. Or both.
Clear stiones, they do not belong to any player's set. They are read-only. It is like the BINGO, with free space in the Middle! Except this one, it doesn't have to be a free space. It can be a space-waster, if you want.
Putting down 10 of these at the start of the game in a grid-like pattern, these can be real tricky.
Areyo (Wang Daniel) has successfully ruined Go, commited the change, and put his name in the $Id line.

Before the start of a game, place "null" stones. Choose:
Do they count toward completing a line (used for capturing)?
Can they be captured?
NEW! Worth any certain number of stones, in particular?
Recommended is clear stones. I used purple here.

Just what are you talking about and who would want to ruin Go in the first place. Besides the manufacturers of Othello.

Daniel, the game has done just fine for several thousand years without your intervention. I daresay it will continue to prosper without the need for mediocre variations

Of course, it's perfectly good and simple as it is! I just want my name on the version history in "changelog".Savia wrote:Daniel, the game has done just fine for several thousand years without your intervention. I daresay it will continue to prosper without the need for mediocre variations
That way, if, say, the Canadians invent another version of Go, it reads:
Code: Select all
$Id 16-9-05 Go 2.1.7.8 Canadians
3.0 build 109 Canadians 16-9-05
Rebuilt Go to support multiple dimensions with 3d board(s).
2.1.7.8 Areyo (Wang Daniel) 18-7-2003
Added capability for null stones (options: capturable, useable, ownership)
2.1.3 Areyo (Wang Daniel) 3-5-2002
Added support for non-standard boards, included rules for trianglular Go.
2.0.1 Korea 1-13-1980
Fixed security hole in Go - gameboard is now static value
2.0 Nihon (Japan) 700BC
Objective is to capture stones as opposed to 5-in-a-row, now.
1.4 Nihon (Japan) 700BC
Ported it to Nihongo, renamed it "Go"
1.0 China 312BC
Final build. Production release of (wuziqui) (Go)
0.9.9 China 311BC
Beta testing the deliverable - release candidate 2
