It was two days ago that Hiei first noticed the feeling. The feeling that he needed something, but couldn’t comprehend what it could be. He didn’t need anything or anyone, so he chalked it up to spending too much time with these humans.
But the feeling only got worse when he left for the Makai. So he decided to ask the one person he trusted about this problem. Unfortunately, that person was also the focus of this feeling. The feeling was that he needed something from Kurama.
Hiei leapt easily from tree to tree until he reached the tree outside Kurama’s window. Hiei was very familiar with this window. He had spent many an evening sitting in it, watching Kurama do his absurd human homework. Kurama had explained numerous times the importance of homework in the human world, but Hiei still didn’t understand it.
He peered into the window. Sure enough, Kurama was at his desk, staring at a book and tapping his pencil on the desk. Hiei watched him for a few minutes, hiding in the shadows of a tree branch. Kurama read, turned the page, and tapped the pencil. Read. Turn. Tap. Read. Turn. Tap. Read. Turn. Tap...
Suddenly Kurama stopped tapping. He stared at the book and shook his head at it. Hiei could see his eyes scrunch up. Kurama’s forehead hit the desk and the pencil went flying across the room.
Hiei smiled. He broke off a stick from his branch and threw it at the window. It hit the glass with a thwap.
Kurama raised his head so quickly he almost fell backwards. He looked out the window. Hiei stepped forward so that Kurama could see him. He put on a serious face to mask the fact that he was about to laugh.
Kurama saw Hiei and his eyes lit up. He slid his chair back and slammed his book closed, then walked hurriedly over to the window and pulled it open. Hiei was on the windowsill before Kurama could blink.
"I thought you liked that homework crap," Hiei commented.
Kurama flushed. "Even the best of us get fed up with doing the same thing everyday."
"You eat everyday," Hiei observed. "You sleep every night."
"Eh...those things are necessary," Kurama said, running his hand through his crimson hair nervously. "And what brings you here, Hiei?" he asked, changing the subject.
"Hn, I have a problem."
"Oh? And what do you want me to do about it?" Kurama asked, flopping down on his bed. Hiei stayed on the windowsill.
"Fix it." the demon answered plainly.
"I’ll try, but there’s no guarantee," Kurama said, delighted that Hiei had come to him about this. But then again, to whom else would he go?
Hiei was silent. Kurama had his emerald eyes fixed on the demon. He felt uncomfortable with the attention. How was he supposed to tell Kurama the problem when the kitsune was the problem?
"I will have to know what this problem is also," Kurama said, smiling amusedly.
"Hn," Hiei remarked, shifting on the windowsill anxiously. "There’s something I can’t get out of my head."
Kurama sighed. Getting more then one sentence out of Hiei was going to be a trip. "And what is it that you’re thinking about?" he asked, waiting patiently for an answer.
Hiei didn’t say anything for awhile, staring out the window into the darkness. "You," he admitted finally. "I can’t stop thinking about you, baka kitsune."
Now it was Kurama’s turn to be speechless. Hiei couldn’t stop thinking about him? He blinked and stared at the little fire demon sitting in the window. The kitsune himself had a similar dilemma.
"Well?" Hiei asked impatiently. "What does it mean?" He turned his head. Why was Kurama looking at him like that?
Hiei didn’t know what it meant. What does it mean? Kurama wondered. He knew what he wanted it to mean, but that didn’t make it true. "What kind of things are you feeling when you think about me?" he asked, hoping he didn’t sound too eager.
What did he feel? What did that have anything to do with it? Hiei frowned. "The same thing I feel when you’re around," he answered. What was Kurama, an idiot?
"Oh. And what’s that?" Kurama asked, unconsciously picking up the pencil he had thrown, which had ended up landing on his bed.
Hiei scowled at him. Why was Kurama asking such stupid questions that he couldn’t answer? "I don’t know, baka."
"Well, do you feel angry?" Kurama asked, tapping the end of the pencil on his leg. He didn’t notice it. It was something he did when he was bored or anxious.
"No," Hiei answered.
"Are you annoyed?"
"No."
"Are you-"
"No," Hiei interrupted. This was getting nowhere. It would take forever before Kurama suggested the correct feeling. Even Hiei wasn’t sure what it was called. He decided to try and explain it. "I feel kind of warm. Here," he said, pointing at his chest. "And sometimes...other places." He turned back to the open window, hoping Kurama hadn’t seen him redden with embarrassment.
Kurama blushed too. Hiei felt like that about him? In all the million times Kurama had thought about it, he never would have guessed that. He was suddenly at a loss for words. What would Hiei think if he told him what that feeling meant?
"So are you going to tell me what that means?" Hiei asked, glancing at the kitsune out of the corner of his eye. Kurama’s face was a bit pink.
"Eh, well, I’m no expert at these things, but I think that what you’re experiencing, Hiei, is a...crush," Kurama said, waiting for the demon’s reaction, wondering a little too lately if Hiei knew what a crush was.
"What the hell is a crush?"
Well, that answered his question. "Um, well, it means you have an affection for me..." Kurama answered. Would Hiei understand that?
"What kind of affection?" Hiei asked warily. Was Kurama saying what he thought he was saying?
"Uh, attraction I guess." This is where I get sliced into tiny pieces. Kurama thought.
Hiei was very quiet for a long time. Kurama was beginning to think he was correct about the being killed thing. Hiei would think that being attracted to him was abominable. He might even think Kurama was lying. Abruptly he realized he was still tapping the pencil. He glared at his hand and tossed the pencil across the bed. It fell between the bed and the wall. When Kurama looked back up, he was startled to find Hiei standing less then a foot away.
"I thought that might be it," Hiei said calmly.
Kurama blinked. "And you’re not mad?"
Hiei glared at him. "Why would I be mad, baka kitsune?"
"Because I said..."
"The truth?" Hiei asked.
"Was it?"
Hiei thought for a moment. "Close your eyes," he said.
He’s going to kill me. Kurama thought. But no, Hiei wouldn’t do that. But he did look pretty irritated there, scowling at him. Kurama did as Hiei asked and closed his eyes.
Hiei smiled. The kitsune had listened. He waved a hand in front of Kurama’s face, making sure his eyes were completely closed. They were.
Kurama sat with his eyes closed for awhile when he started wondering what Hiei was going to do. All of the sudden he felt a pair of lips press briefly against his. His eyes flew open in shock, but by that time Hiei was already gone. Kurama noticed a piece of neatly folded paper on the bed. He opened it and read.
It said only three words: You were right.
Kurama looked at the window. The curtains were still fluttering from the speed of Hiei’s leaving. He brought two fingers up to touch his lips. He smiled. Next time, he would be sure to kiss Hiei back.

see the double thread for response, Mr/s.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
