Pros of technology

Post by J-0080 » Thu Nov 13, 2003 9:14 pm

Lets just say that you had to write a persuasive essay in American Lititure for practice in the up-coming MAP test. Lets also say that this essay had to be five paragraphs long, and give points as to why technology is a good thing.

So, what exactly would you write?

I'd go along the lines of how the advancement of technology has progressed people to a new level of business and learning. Today's technology has helped to save people more time in a frenzied world and has made certain easier to accomplish, such as the washing and drying of our clothes. Technology is so essential in people's lives that they may not be able to function with it gone.

I could go on, but I'm quite an indolent person. I'm not sure if this is what you wanted or meant, but this is my answer.

*takes a deep breath* I had a philosophy class which dealt with the merits/perils of technology, as well as the question as to what exactly technology is (and progress, for that matter). It was actually quite thought provoking, and I could now practically write a short book on the subject. But you only need 5 paragraphs. . .

It's rather difficult for me to give a completely one-sided (positive) view on the subject of technology. But if I had to try, I'd say something along the lines of the following:

Technology as a whole enables the average person (who has access to it) to lead a longer, more comfortable life. Longer, due to advances and developments in medical technology, and more comfortable due to labor-saving devices. Where at one time people would have had to produce everything directly by hand, machines can now save time and effort by doing much of the manual labor for us.

Even in the transition from the use of one machine to another, the benefits of technology are noticable. Take the typewriter for example. It was slow, (you had to load each page one at a time), cumbersome, (page formatting and lining things up correctly was a hassle), and fixing errors on the page was tedious. Typing on a computer is much easier, with printers that hold dozens of pages, built-in page formatting, and error correction made easier by spell checkers and the delete button.

I'm sure you can think up the rest from there; I'm not going to write your whole paper for you. And I really disliked writing what I just did, because I disagree with much of it. Indeed, much of the basic premises are inherently false if one stops to consider them. But, that should give you pretty much what you're looking for, or more correctly what your teacher/the graders of the test are looking for. :?

Well, technology for one, makes mass murder of a particular race, color alot more possible and efficient, than if you tried to undergo the task 100-200 years ago.
...the problem I see a lot is that many good amv makers think they suck, and many bad amv makers think they're good.
I've seen it happen, man! I've SEEN IT!..

And why is that nailz?

Anywho thanks for that Gaikotsu, I was mainly stumped on how to start it off, and you provided a good example.

No problem J-0080. I tend to be pretty good at BS'ing my way through things I don't particularly agree with.
