nVidia GeForce or ATi Radeon?
I'm sure many of you guys have heard me talking about the new computer I've been planning to buy for like a year. Well, I'm about to buy it this weekend for sure, so I'd like to just ask this question. I'm either going to get an nVidia GeForce-FX 5600 256MB or an ATi Radeon 9600 256MB. I'm not that much of a gamer right now, but I plan to be on this new computer. Which one would you prefer and why?

GForce ^_^
dont sell yourslelf short, although the newest ATI is a "better" card, in about a month, Nvida will make a better one for less money.

Right now, ATI is beating Geforce's ass.
That is, of course, if you go by the top-line GF-FX vs 9800Pro.
But how much are you willing to spend and what do you want with your order?
If you have a lot of money, ATI is definitely a winner, price-for-performance-wise. However, I think right now anything below a Radeon 9700 is not worth it. So suit yourself.
PS Both computers in my house are running NVidia cards, a Ti4200 on my older rig (still the absolute best card I ever used, but buying one now is a questionable decision), FX5200 on my new, private rig - this card a bit slower, but still has a lot of texture memory and a bonus of DX-9 implementation.
And, oh, it's dirt cheap.
But again, the question here is money.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Well, I'm not a HUGE gamer like some people, but I think with this setup I'm more willing to play games like Halo. I really didn't want to spend more than $200, but I guess $250 is my limit of this video card.

I managed to get myself an ATI Radeon 9600 pro 256MB for $155 a few weeks ago and it works pretty well but you definately need to update the drivers when you get it. I got it because it was better and cheaper than the GF FX 5200 I was comparing it to. Check out mwave.com for some good deals.

As for GF5200 - Mine (being included in a complete computer package) cost me 95 canadian = $65 american. Retail on it's own, it's 120 = ~75 american. That's quite cheap.
For that money... hmm - well, I'm not quite up with the prices in that range, but do go out and look at both Radeon 9700's and up and GF5600 and up, and see how they stack up.
