Presentation is crucial

Post by Anime Jedi » Sun Nov 02, 2003 6:02 pm

I think presentation is an important part of any media. It either gets you interested, or has you turn away being bored.

When it comes to movies and series, businesses are creating a much better presentation for their products. And especially with the creation of DVDs, they've been able to incorporate newer techniques.

Though some don't seem to put as much effort into presentation as others. The case seems like any old case someone could buy, with maybe even NOT having a scene slip inside, and the DVD itself couldn't be anymore boring to look at.

With live action DVDs, it's hard to say which one has left the greatest impression on me, considering that they are all doing the same thing. You know, bonus discs, extras, behind the scenes, trailers...

But there was one anime DVD that I'm, extremely happy I decided to buy. This is the Angel Sanctuary DVD. The front and back art are average with many other animes, but the casing is exceptional. It's a clear case, and all the information is given on the opposite sides of the front and back art. Therefore there's no clumsy and awkward slip, and the art is amazing inside. Also, an often over looked detail is the bottom to release the DVD. It actually works! You push it, and the DVD pop out of it's secured state. I had become so frustrated with many of DVDs where it had to be pryed out, or the case bent like an ice cube tray.

On the physical DVD, the art is extremely well done. A romantic picture with the title well added. Though the coprights seem awkward because they are on an angle.

What kind of presentation has been worth you remembering it? May it be DVD, VHS, CD, Video Game, magazine... Something that has gone up and beyond what you expected.

Definetly the promo for FF VI: the advent children, the fact that i have been waiting for this day to come may have had a hand in it, but still that trailer is going to stay with me for a while.

Yes the Angel Sanctuary DVD is really cool. *actually got up pulled the thing from her shelf and reevaluated it*

Actual presentation factor? Meh, I honestly don't pay attention...most of the time I consider the content, even simpler things...like one word titles on a black background will still get my attention.

Well, given my often-inverse mentality as compared to more typical people, an ugly presentation is often a bonus...

Admittably though, presentation is important for any marketed commodity to be a commercial success.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Has anyone taken a look at the Earthian DVD lately?

I bet anyone who bought that DVD on impulse basing it only on presentation will tell you they were not happy.

http://store.yahoo.com/animenation/awdvd-0194.html

Look at the cover. Isn't that beautiful? And the description of the DVD is also the written on the back of it. Now, knowing nothing about Earthian, and basing only on presentation, I bought the DVD.

And I watched it.

And I thought I was going to puke. (I had no concept of yaoi back then).

Of course, I've grown to kind of like it now, but based on presentation you'd think that anime has got to be good, but in reality, it's absurdly boring.

Another point to the fact that "[resentation is everything". -thumb up-

And yes, Angel Sanctuary DVD has got to be one of the best. As well as Revolutionary Girl Utena's.(The movie)
