How did you get into making AMVs?

Post by Lone Wolf » Thu Oct 30, 2003 11:20 pm

I've been wondering this for a while now. For those of you who are good at making AMVs:

What college did you attend? Was it one known for film?

What did you major in?

What is your current job? Does it involve Premiere and other similar programs? Does it involve a lot of audio and video work?

If you have an 8am-6pm work schedule or something similar, when do you get around to editing? How often and for how long do you edit?

I was just wondering if you all have become the way you are at making AMVs by learning and experience through school/job or by trial and error and getting gradually better over time.

I'm still in college, and I sorta taught myself how to do this stuff. Still learning as I go.

I'm not gonna claim to be anywhere near remotely good at making AMV's. I saw some AMV's awhile ago and at cons. I figured if other anime fans can make 'em, why not me?
So I did some google searching and a lot of reading, and re reading. Then lots of downloading and fiddling with various programs along with tutorials for various things. Still learning of course.

My job has absolutly nothing to do with anime, AMV's, video, audio or pretty much anything for that matter.
I work from 4pm-12:30am. Sometimes I'll do some editing when I get home, usually until 3am-4am. Thats if I feel like it and as long as I don't have class the next day or get caught up in video games. Most of my editing is done on the weekends though.

I hope to get good at making AMV's through determination and devotion. Only one of my RL friends are computer litereate, and he isn't into AMV's, so i gotta teach myself.

Same as above. I'm not going to claim that I am good at making amvs. But I began video editing when I was 12 (which means I've been doing this for over 6 years now). My first experience with video editing was when I created a tv show at my school. We used an Amiga system to produce the visual effects and splice together the show which was broadcast through-out the school via close circuit tv. It was during this time that I began looking on the net and stumbled upon music videos created by normal people. Around the age of 13 I got a capture card and started messing around with doing videos. It wasn't until I saw MJ's "Bullet with butterfly wings" vid that I knew of the existance of AMV's. Prior to this the only AMV's I had seen were the one's I created using Ronin Warriors as footage back in '93. Anyways, as stated in my profile, I thought the vid needed improvement so I sought out to create a video I felt did the song better justice. After creating it, I starting coming here.

I didn't go to college and learn my skills, I only learned 3D animation skills in college.

I dont really have a current career, I am on the college scholar program in which I get paid to produce projects in my field.

Bandwagon.

I'm still not actively into making them.

I started mostly because I felt that there were certain kinds of music that were grossly under-represented in the database.

I've been doing TV/Film stuff throughout the years in school, but I really didn't get to do any editing until high school. I got to learn on old VTR decks, so yes, I learned linear editing before non-linear, which I think is very useful. I'm planning on going to study either Film or Radio at UCF next year (After a failed stint at UM for Music Business -_-;; ). I was enthralled by my first AMV (xianpower's "Bitches") but didn't get the editing kick until I downloaded a bunch of shitty AMVs. I said to myself that I could do better than the ones I've been downloading, so I set out to do so.

I'm still in High School, but i started like four years ago when my brother installed adobe on our computer and i started editing DBZ music videos and putting my name on them. They were absolute shit, no timing, just an existing MV with a different song.

Then i started downloading clips and music and started getting better, but in the past six months (since joining the org) ive gotten programs and skills and have been getting better and better.

Currently i dont study any kind of computer based subject, so all my skills are from myself learning by trial and error, and due to school and work i rarely have time to make AMV's

Soo keep an eye out for some good AMV's coming from me.
