Hell yea! I've been approved for kung fu tournament!
My instructor has just granted me the privelage to participate in our local martial arts tournament and later next month in a national devision tournament down here in Flordia.
I am performing a 1:30 second open style creative staff/bo form. Meaning I need to be able to come up with my own form and time it to the music (this has to be done on the spot, no post production editing); I'll be with tune to the music. So I need help in choosing a song I am fast with the staff, but I'm not Kamelot-Expidition fast. So if anyone has any suggestions for any songs please post.
Here are some that I am thinking of. Remember, this isn't an amv this will be a "real life amv" if you know what I mean.
1. Linkin Park - In the End (hasn't been used at a martial arts tournament as far as I know). Song speed is easy to follow.
2. Evenesence - Bring Me To Life (Again hasn't been used, sorta slow beginning, but it picks up's but not to strong of a song).
3. Rob Zombie - Dragula (To fast not enough differn't beats.
4. Gob - Painted Black (would it work? Speed is easy to follow).
I was th inking of something from the Kill Bill soundtrack, just haven't decided on the song yet.
btw, I am as fast as Kilik is in Soul Calibur 2 (can't do the butter fly kick yet, but everything else is performable *not the flying up the staff move).

If you were un godly fast I would suggest Dry Kill Logic - Rot, but thats a song even I find hard to keep up with and I'm hella fast with weapons. I'm about out of breath by about two and half minutes into it.

Congratulations on your approval. But I have to say that I dislike that particular competition.... especially when cheezy or inappropriate songs are chosen. So give it some thought.
On a similar note, has anyone seen the video of some girl performing Kilik's Kata on such a tourney?

Agreed, I usually dont like display competitions, I usually only go to tournaments for sparring matches. I really wish they would hold a tournament similar to that on shows like DBZ, that would be awesome. Im more of a unpadded fighter and would enjoy a free form competition where you aren't judged on points but knock outs.El Banana wrote:Congratulations on your approval. My fave part of any martial arts tournament is always the sparring, but the section has already been filled by black belt members. He may approve me of weapons sparring which is really cool in this tourn. Cause un like a l ot of otheres they are allowed to mix and match the weapons. I.e. Sword vs staff, Staff vs Nachaku etc... I am currently attending the class at www.streetdefense.com all those on the site are my instructor's.
On Wed. we do have a full contact match that is like UFC (not full power though) you are allowed to do anything you want within reason. You can punch, kick (hold kicks), and submissionz. There is almost no weight limit, so it is especially hard if you are fighting a guy that is 50 pounds or more bigger than you. However, in tournaments there are weight classes, which is a good thing.

Same here. Although if there is one thing I learned, it's "keep you fists balled the whole time.MAS PRODUCTIONS wrote:Im more of a unpadded fighter and would enjoy a free form competition where you aren't judged on points but knock outs.

Wow, good job... At my place (I'm a black belt in TKD btw), then we don't have to get actual approval.... Which is sort of a good idea, but you wouldn't believe the amount of crappage at tourney's i've been to. Unfortunately I couldn't go to the tourney in Florida... I would've liked to go (fall nationals! Yeah!), but I couldn't. Oh yeah I think Darude -- Sandstorm is pretty good.... Easy beat to follow... Slow at first but then picks up.
Yes, and unfortunately, El Banana, I had to learn that the hard way... All I can say is "ouch"
